SUNNAH, PRACTISES OF MUHAMMAD SAW
WUDHU

Put water in the nostrils thrice using the right hand and clean the nose with the left hand.
Thereafter, wash the face thrice, beginning from the hair of the forehead to below the chin, and from one ear lobe to the other, ensuring that the water reaches the whole area.
Thereafter, wash the right hand including the elbow thrice. Then wash the left hand including the elbow thrice. Then make Khilaal by passing the fingers of one hand through the fingers of the other. If one is wearing a ring (or in the case of a woman, bangles), then move it to ensure that no part is left dry.

THE MESSAGE
Zina - [ADULTERY/FORNICATION]

Allah Ta’aala says: "And do not go near Zina. It is indeed a shameful and an evil path." (Surah Al Isrâ’, Ayah 32)

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: "…adultery of the eyes is when it looks at that which is Haraam; adultery of the ears is when it listens to that which is Haraam; adultery of the tongue is when it utters Haraam; adultery of the hands is when it touches Haraam; adultery of the feet is when it walks towards Haraam; adultery of the heart is when it desires and hopes for that which is Haraam; adultery of the private parts is when it succumbs to that which is Haraam." (Targhib wa Tarhîb)

From the above Hadith it is clear and apparent that Islam forbids not only the act of adultery but all acts that invite and encourage the act of Zina. Islam shuts the door to the root of every evil.

Nabî Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: "There are three such people with whom Allah Ta’aala will not speak to (with words of mercy and kindness) nor will Allah Ta’aala look at them (with eyes of mercy) nor will Allah Ta’aala purify them, and for them is a painful punishment:

• An old person who commits Zina.
• A king or leader who is exceptionally deceptive (he lies a lot).
• A needy person who is proud." (Muslim)

Once Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam remarked, "A Dayyûth [cuckold] will never enter Jannah." The Sahaba enquired, "Who is a Dayyûth?" Nabî Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam replied, "A man who is not bothered about who visits his wife." (Sunnats)

Touching a Strange Woman with Lust
It has been reported that the person who touches a strange woman with lust, on the day of resurrection his hands will be shackled to his neck. If he kissed her, his lips will be cut off and thrown in the fire of Jahannum. If he committed adultery then his thighs will bear witness to it and testify against him on the Day of Qiyaamah. It will say to him, "I was mounted for something impermissible." Allah will look at him with anger. The flesh of his face will fall off and he will proclaim "What did I do?" His tongue will testify and say, "I spoke to whom it was not permissible for you to talk to." His legs will testify, "I walked towards something unlawful." His hands will testify "I held something which was prohibited for you." His eyes will testify "I gazed at unlawful things." His private parts will testify "I committed the act." An angel will say, "I heard it" while another will say, "I’ve written it down." Allah will say "I was aware of it and I concealed it." Then Allah will say to the angels "Let him taste of my punishment. My anger has increased on one who has no shame." (Kitâb-ul-Kaba’ir)

In a Hadith narrated by Samurah (RA) regarding a dream of Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, it is mentioned that Jibra’îl and Mikâ’îl (AS) came to Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam.

Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam says: "We walked until we came to something that looked like an oven. Its top section was narrow and the inside was broad. From it sounds of screaming and noise was heard."

Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam further says: "We looked inside and we saw naked men and women. We also saw flames from beneath them. When these flames scorched them, they screamed." I asked Jibra’îl (AS): "Who are these people?" He replied, "These are the males and females who committed the grave act of Zina. This will be their punishment till the day of Qiyaamah." (Bukhari)

DUA (PRAYER)
Liked things and Fear of the Evil Eye

Say: Mã shã'a 'allãhu lã quwwata 'illã bil-lãhi whenever one looks at something pleasing. “This is what Allah has wished… there is no power and might besides Allah”. The Prophet said: "The `Ein (the [evil] eye) is true, and if there was anything that was going to beat Fate, the evil eye would have beaten it."

AND… FOR THE KIDDIES
Banana Shoes

Zaakir was a little boy who always got confused when searing his shoes. He would often wear his shoes on his own, only to be told that he had worn them the wrong way. Then he had to remove them and wear them again, switch them around.

Now one day, Zaakir wore his shoes incorrectly again. Nobody noticed at first, until he went out into the garden to play. He stopped to make Salaam to Noor the gardener, who returned his salaam. Then Noor pointed to Zaakir’s shoes and laughed. “Banana Shoes.” He said.

“These are takkies, “said Zaakir. “They are not banana shoes.” Still smiling Noor explained that ‘banana shoes’ were shoes that were put on wrong. He then told Zaakir to bring two bananas from the house.

Zaakir went into the house and returned with the bananas. Noor took the bananas and placed them, back to back. Then he told Zaakir to turn them around to form an apple shape. Zaakir did as he was told. Noor then told him to place his shoes together in this way.

“Always wear your shoes like an apple and not like bananas,” he said. Zaakir wore his shoes the correct way and went to explain his sister what he had just learnt.

Thereafter it was much easier to put his shoes on correctly. Now, whenever he sees little children wearing their shoes the wrong way, you can be sure he points to them and says, “Banana shoes.” He then shows them how to wear them the apple way.

RECIPE
PATARYA
Ingredients

2 ½ cups chana flour - ½ cup Rice flour - ½ cup cake flour - ½ cup mealie meal - ½ cup coconut – optional - Salt to taste - ½ tsp fine black pepper - 1 tsp ground cinnamon - 1 tblsp ground dhania - 1 tblsp ground jeero - 2 tblsps methi masala.

1 large onion peeled and quartered - 1 tomato quartered - Ground green chillies and garlic to taste - ¼ cup lemon juice - 250ml sour milk.

½ cup aamli (tamarind) - ½ cup boiling water - ½ cup vinegar.

Method
Scrape veins from leaves, wash and pat dry. Combine all the dry ingredients together in a large dish. Blend the onion tomato chillies lemon juice and sour milk until smooth and add to the dry ingredients. Soak the aamli in the water and vinegar for a few minutes then strain and add to above mixture and stir until well combined and a thick paste is formed. If using small leaves: Spread about a teaspoon of batter over each leaf turn the two sides in then roll tightly like a swill roll. Place the rolls in a steamer pot and steam over a low heat for about an hour (at this point they can be frozen). Shallow fry in a pan with a little oil and ½ cup water allow to steam slowly till water evaporates, turning once till golden brown.

When using large leaves: spread a tablespoon of batter over a leaf then place a small leaf on top. Spread a little more batter over the second leaf. Turn the two sides in then neatly fold like a Swiss roll. Steam as usual.

Cut into 1 ½ cm slices and shallow fry in hot oil until golden brown on both sides. Serve with puri and chutney.

Variations
For diversity add apple banana or 2 tblsps ginger to the onion mixture before blending.

COOKING TIP
Try recipes of mangoes with different varieties, to get a variation in flavours, taste as well as colour, since they range from pale yellow (malgoba) to the deep orange (kesari and dusseri) varieties.

A THOUGHT
One candle, by lighting another, does not lose part of its light. Yet we guard our light as if it were a commodity that will run out if we share it. We put a bucket over our light so that no one else can see it in case they might want some of it. We think that that will make it last longer; but it won't. Only in sharing our light will it burn brighter. Try the concept of random acts of kindness. Stop at a toll gate and pay the fee for the car behind you. They will probably race behind you for miles trying to catch you and trying to figure out what it was that made you pay their fee. Smile at people, stand up for pregnant ladies, and carry parcels for old people, give abundantly to beggars, and smile at children, stroke pets. Be nice to people, because only in giving do we get back more. Share the light. Yours will burn brighter. INSHALLAH!

THE SMILE
A law firm receptionist answered the phone the morning after the firm's senior partner had passed away unexpectedly.
"Is Mr. Smith there?” asked the client on the phone.
"I'm very sorry, but Mr. Smith passed away last night," the receptionist answered.
"Is Mr. Smith there?” repeated the client.
The receptionist was perplexed. "Perhaps you didn't understand me I'm afraid Mr. Smith passed away last night."
"Is Mr. Smith there?” asked the client again.
"Ma'am, do you understand what I'm saying?” said the exasperated receptionist. "Mr. Smith is DEAD!"
"I understand you perfectly," the client sighed. "I just can't hear it often enough."

THE NEWS
Israel's deputy prime minister, Shimon Peres, says the use of cluster bombs by Israel against Hezbollah in last year’s war was a mistake. He says the tiny bombs were dropped without the knowledge of the head of the army. About 1 million of the bomblets were used. 90% were dropped in the last three days of the war. Despite an intensive de-mining effort, only 19,000 cluster bombs have been cleared so far. Unexploded bombs in the country have killed at least 27 people and wounded more than 140 since the end of the war.

Adelaide Tambo, widow of former ANC leader Oliver Tambo, has died. She was 77 and will be remembered as one of South Africa's key fighters of the liberation struggle. The struggle veteran spent nearly 30 years in exile with the ANC. Tambo was one of the 20 000 women who marched on Pretoria's Union Building in protest against the pass laws in 1956.

A secret Police report by Commissioner Manoko Aletta Nchwe says that the police service must only have a 10% white staff by the year 2010. The SAPS is currently made up of about 18%-19% white South Africans. The report gives the latest guidelines for quotas and affirmative action. By 2010, the police service must consist of 79% blacks, 9.6% whites, 8.9% coloureds and 2.5% Indians. Nchwe says this can happen through resignations, moving whites to other service points and by offering severance packages.

Residents in Birmingham were shocked by raids against Muslims in the town yesterday. More than 100 police officers carried out twelve raids and arrested 9 people. Police targeted a home in the Alum Rock belonging to father of two, Amjad Mamood, Other raids took place in Sparkhill, Kingstanding and Washwood Heath Police claim the men were planning to kidnap a British Muslim soldier and behead him. Pictures were then to be placed on the internet. Last night, the targeted soldier, an unmarried man in his twenties, was under police protection. There are about 330 Muslim serving in the British army.

Electricity supplier, Eskom, is appealing to South Africans to save electricity immediately - or face load-shedding in the next few days. Load-shedding is the cutting of electricity supply on purpose when there is too great a demand of electricity from users. At the moment Eskom jut has enough power going. If there are any additional breakdowns at any power stations, or a surge in electricity demand by South Africans, this could cause blackouts before the weekend. People are requested to switch off any unnecessary electricity appliances.

The ruling Hamas party yesterday condemned a multimillion dollar American aid package to support security forces the rival Fatah party. A spokesman Hamas, Ismail Radwan, says this is part of American policy aimed at starting a civil war in Palestine. He says that whenever Palestinians reach agreements to end violence, the US gives money to Fatah to maintain tensions among Palestinians. US President George W. Bush has ordered the transfer of about $86 million to strengthen security forces loyal to Mahmood Abbas’s Fatah group.
