UNDERSTANDING THE QUR’AN
SURAH ABS CONTINUED…
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH THE BENEFICIENT THE MOST MERCIFUL

[32] So when there will come the Deafening Noise,
[33] The Day when one will flee from his brother,
[34] And from his mother and father,
[35] And from his wife and sons,
[36] Every one of them will have enough concern to make him careless of others.

(So when there will come the Deafening Noise… 80:33). The word Saukhkhah means 'deafening cry or shout' and it refers to the blowing of the trumpet, which will be a deafening sound… (The Day when one will flee from his brother... 80:34). This depicts the scene when all the people will have gathered in the Plain of Gathering. Each person will be worried about himself, and the situation will be so horrifying and tense that it will make people heedless of anything around them. In the world, there are relationships between people that make one willing to lay down his life for the other, but on the Day of Resurrection there will be such horror and chaos that they will be unable to take care of anyone.

THE MESSAGE
Celebrating Valentine’s Day
------------------------------

The Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam told us that his people would follow the enemies of Allah in some of their rituals and customs, as it says in the Hadith of Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri RA, who narrated that the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: “You will certainly follow the ways of those who came before you, span by span, cubit by cubit, until even if they were to enter a lizard’s hole, you would follow them.” (Narrated by al-Bukhari)

What the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam spoke of has indeed come to pass and has become widespread in recent times. Many Muslims follow the enemies of Allah in many of their customs and ways of behaving, and imitate them in some of their rituals and in celebrating their ‘days’.

The matter has become even worse by the opening up of mass communications between peoples, whereby the rituals and customs of others are now transmitted with the glamorous adornment of sound and image from their countries into the Muslim countries, via satellite TV and the World Wide Web (Internet). Many Muslims have been deceived by its glamour.

In recent years, a new phenomenon has spread among the Muslim youth – males and females alike – which does not bode well. This is manifested in their imitation of pagans in their celebration of the Valentine’s Day, which has led the scholars and Daa’iyahs to explain the rulings of the Shariah, so that Muslims may have a clear understanding of this issue and so that they will not fall into that which will undermine the belief (‘Aqeedah) with which Allah has blessed them.

Since Valentine’s Day goes back to the Roman times, not the Islamic times, it means that this is something which belongs exclusively to the Pagan Romans, not to Islam, and Muslims have no share and no part in it. Celebrating Valentine’s Day means resembling or imitating the pagan Romans. Imitating pagans in general is Haraam, whether that imitation is of their worship – which is the most serious form – or of their customs and behaviour. This is indicated by the Qur’an, Sunnah and Ijmaa’ (scholarly consensus).

Imitation causes defects in the Muslim personality, such as feelings of inadequacy, inferiority, weakness and defeatism. It leads to shunning and keeping away from the path and laws of Allah. Experience shows that admiration and imitation of western ways causes people to love them, have complete faith in them and take them as friends and helpers, and to reject Islam and its people, its heroes, its legacy and values, and become ignorant of all of that.

The purpose of Valentine’s Day in these times is to spread love between all people. The love referred to on this day ever since the pagans revived it as romantic love outside the framework of marriage. The result is the spread of Zina (fornication and adultery) and immorality. Hence, even the Christian clergy opposed it at some stage and abolished it, then it came back again.

We should make our family members and friends aware of this. Whoever has sisters in school or brothers should tell them and warn them about this, because many people are unaware of this day and what it means.

We ask Allah to protect the Muslims from the harm of temptations and from the evil of their own selves and the plots of their enemies, for He is the All-hearing Who answers prayers. May Allah send blessings upon His servant and Messenger Muhammad, and upon all his family and companions. Ameen

DUA (PRAYER)
WHEN SOMETHING IS LOST
Allahumma zaada dhaullati wa haady dhalaalah anta tahdy minadh dhalaalah urdu alayya dhaullaty biqudratika wa sultaunika fa innahaa min ataauika wa fadhlika. “O Allah! The returner of that which is lost and the Guide of those gone astray. You are the Only One who guides the one is lost. With Your Power and Your strength return to me the thing I have lost.”

THE STORY
The Oilman and his Parrot

An oilman had a parrot, which amused him with its chatter, and to watch his shop when he went out. One day, when the parrot was alone in the shop, a cat upset one of the oil-jars. The oilman returned home, thinking that the parrot had done the mischief. In his anger he smote the parrot with such a blow on its head that all of its feathers fell off. This stunned the parrot that it lost the power of speech for several days. But one day the parrot saw a bald-headed man passing the shop, and recovering its speech, it cried out, "Pray, whose oil-jar did you upset?"

The passers-by smiled at the parrot's mistake in confusing baldness caused by age with the loss of its own feathers due to a blow. DO NOT CONFUSE APPARENT SITUATIONS WITH REALITY.

RECIPE
ICE TEA

3 Tea bags (Lipton) - 2 Cups of boiled water.

Leave to steep for one hour. Then Boil together 1 cup Water and 1 cup sugar.

Make syrup and boil till sugar dissolves. Add this to the tea mixture. Add ½ cup lime cordial and chill this mixture. Just before serving add 1 ½ ltrs Ginger Ale. Serve with Lemon wedges Mint and lots of ice.

COOKING TIP
Choose the smaller, flat, thin skinned tomatoes, for making sauces. They will not only give better quality sauce, flavour will also be better. Even the residue to get puree will be much lesser.

QUOTE
"Many people lose the small joys, in hope for the big happiness.“ (Pearl S. Buck)

A THOUGHT
None but the sun can display the sun, if you would see it displayed, turn not away from it. Shadows, indeed, may indicate the sun's presence, but only the sun displays the light of life. Shadows induce slumber, like evening talks, but when the sun arises the "moon is split asunder."

THE SMILE
A serial killer broke into a house and confronted a frightened couple. "What's your name? I like to know my victims' names before I kill them," he demanded.
The woman said "My name is Elizabeth."
"Oh, I won't kill you because my mother's name is Elizabeth," he answered.
He turned to the terrified man and said "YOU, what's your name?"
"I'm Peter but my friends call me Elizabeth" he replied.

Experts fear the crisis could surpass the devastating floods of 2000 and 2001, which killed 700 people, displaced half a million and wrecked infrastructure. The floods, started when rains from neighbouring Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi poured into the overflowing Cahora Bassa Dam.
