HADITH, SAYINGS/TRADITIONS OF MUHAMMAD SAW
Sayyadina Abu Yahya Suhaib bin Sinan (RA) reported that: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "How wonderful is the case of a believer; there is good for him in everything and this applies only to a believer. If prosperity attends him, he expresses gratitude to Allah and that is good for him; and if adversity befalls him, he endures it patiently and that is better for him". [Muslim]

Commentary:  A Muslim is required to behave in poverty and prosperity, affluence and hardship, in the manner stated in this Hadith. It means that to forget Allah in prosperity, rather than being thankful to Him for His Favour is defiance of His Orders. Similarly, it is unbecoming of a Muslim that in troubles and turmoil, rather being patient, he tends to weeping and crying, grousing and grieving against the Will of Allah.

THE MESSAGE
Muslim women's achievements in the field of knowledge
---------------------------------------------------------

The gates of knowledge are open to all. The Muslim woman may enter whichever of them she chooses, so long as this does not go against her feminine nature, but develops her mind and enhances her emotional growth and maturity. We find that history is full of prominent examples of remarkable women who sought knowledge and became highly proficient.

Foremost among them is the Mother of the Believers Sayyadatina A'ishah (RA), who was the primary source of hadith and knowledge of the sunnah, and was the first faqihah in Islam when she was still a young woman no more than nine years of age. Imam al-Zuhri said: "If the knowledge of Sayyadatina A'ishah (RA) were to be gathered up and compared to the knowledge of all the other wives of the Prophet (PBUH) and all other women, Sayyadatina A'ishah's knowledge would be greater."

How often did the greatest of the Sahabah refer to her, to hear the final word on matters of the fundamentals of Islam and precise meanings of the Qur'an. Her knowledge and deep understanding were not restricted only to matters of religion; she was equally distinguished in poetry, literature, history and medicine, and other branches of knowledge that were known at that time. The faqih of the Muslims, `Urwah ibn al-Zubayr, was quoted by his son Hisham as saying: "I have never seen anybody more knowledgeable in fiqh or medicine or poetry than Sayyadatina A'ishah (RA).

* Imam Muslim reports that she heard her nephew al-Qasim ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr (RAA) make a grammatical mistake, when he and his (paternal) cousin were talking in front of her, and she told him off for this mistake. Imam Muslim commented on this incident: "Ibn `Atiq said: `Al-Qasim and I were talking in front of Sayyadatina A'ishah (RA), and al-Qasim was one who made frequent mistakes in grammar, as his mother was not an Arab. Sayyadatina A'ishah (RA) said to him, "Why do you not speak like this son of my brother? I know where the problem comes from: he was brought up by his mother, and you were brought up by your mother . . ."

DUA (PRAYER)
It is reported by Sayyadatina Aisha RA that if a person was ailing in some part of his body, or if he had a wound, the Prophet would do with his finger as such, and Sufyãn put the tip of his finger in the ground, then lifted it, and said: Bismillãh turbatu 'ardhinã, bireeqati ba`dhinã, yusfãa saqeemunã, bi'ithni rabbinã… In the name of Allah, the dust of the earth, with the saliva of some of us, our sick is remedied with the permission of our Lord. Al-Bukhãri's translation by Hilãli and Khãn in a footnote says that: While reciting the charm (ruqyã) The Prophet took some of his saliva on his index finger and touched the earth with it and applied the resulting mixture to the place of ailment.

A THOUGHT
All grow in soil from seeds, and the seed has a structure sometimes as hard as wood. However, while considering these, we should avoid habitual ways of thinking and employ different methods. Visualise the delicious tastes and odours of strawberries or the ever-changing odour of melon. Think about the time and energy spent in laboratories to produce similar odours and about the repeated trials that resulted in failure. Indeed, results obtained by scientists in laboratories prove to be no better than the unsuccessful imitations of their natural counterparts. The varieties of taste, odour and colour in nature bear indeed matchless attributes.

THE SMILE
A turtle was walking down an alley in New York when a gang of snails mugged him. A police detective came to investigate and asked the turtle if he could explain what happened. The turtle looked at the detective with a confused look on his face and replied "I don't know, it all happened so fast."
