UNDERSTANDING THE QUR’AN
Surah An-Nazi’at: 79 (Those Who Pull Out)
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH THE BENEFICIENT THE MOST MERCIFUL

And in no time they will be (brought) in the plain (of hashr). [14]

COMMENTARY: (and in no time they will be [brought] in the plain [of hashr]...79:14). The word 'Saahirah' refers to 'the surface of the earth'. When the earth will be re-created at Resurrection, it will be a completely level surface. There will be no mountain barriers, no buildings or caves. This is referred to as 'Saahirah'.

THE MESSAGE
Creating an atmosphere of faith in the home
---------------------------------------------

Make the home a place for the remembrance of Allaah. The Prophet Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “The likeness of a house in which Allaah is remembered and the house in which Allaah is not remembered is that of the living and the dead, respectively.”

We must make our homes places where Allaah is remembered in all kinds of ways, whether in our hearts, verbally, during prayer, by reading Qur’aan, by discussing Islamic issues, or by reading different kinds of Islamic books.

How many Muslim homes nowadays are dead because there is no remembrance of Allaah, as mentioned in the hadeeth. What must they be like when all that is heard therein is the music of Shaytaan with instruments and singing, and backbiting, slander and gossip?

What must they be like when they are filled with evil and sin, such as the
haraam mixing of the sexes and wanton display between relatives who are not mahram or with neighbours who enter the home?

How can the angels enter a home like this? Revive your homes with all kinds of dhikr, may Allaah have mercy on you!

DUA (PRAYER)
Meetings/gatherings
It is reported that Ibn 'Umar said: Rarely would the Messenger of Allah get up from a seated gathering till he would supplicate with the following petition for his companions: 'Allãhumma 'aqsim lanã min khashyatika mã tahoolu bihi baynanã wa bayna ma'ãseeka, wa min tã'a, wa min tã'atika mã tuballighunã bihi jannataka, wa minal yaqeeni mã tuhawwinu bihi 'alaynã masã'ibad-dunyã, 'allãhumma matti'nã bi'asmã'ina, wa 'absãrinã, wa quwwatinã mã 'ahyaytanã, waj'ak hul-wãritha minnã, waj'al tha'ranã 'alãmen thalamanã, wansurnã 'alã men, 'ãdãnã, wa lã taj'al museebatanã fee deeninã, wa lã taj'alid-dunyã 'akbara hamminã, wa lã mablagha 'ilminã, wa lã tusallit 'alaynã men lã yarhamunã.

O' my 'ilãh part for us fear of You which You cause to come between us and the acts of disobedience to You, obedience to You through which You deliver us to your Garden, and of surety with which You make the calamities of the World easy for us to bear. O' my 'ilãh grant us joy in our hearing, our sight, and our strength so long as You keep us alive, and make them of the things we leave behind at death [meaning keep them well till we die], and make our retaliation to be upon those that have transgressed upon us, and cause us victory over those that have made us their enemies, and do not let our calamity be in our faith, and do not make the world the biggest of our concerns, nor the limit of our knowledge, and do not empower over us who will not have mercy upon us.

AND… FOR THE KIDDIES
Two Horses
Just up the road from my home is a field, with two horses in it. From a distance, each looks like every other horse. But if you stop your car, or are walking by, you will notice something quite amazing.

Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him. This alone is amazing.

If you are nearby and listening, you will hear the sound of a bell. Looking around for the source of the sound, you will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field. Attached to her halter is a small bell. It lets her blind friend know where she is, so he can follow her.

As you stand and watch these two friends, you'll see how she is always checking on him, and that he will listen for her bell and then slowly walk to where she is, trusting that she will not lead him astray.

When she returns to the shelter of the barn each evening, she stops occasionally and looks back, making sure her friend isn't too far behind to hear the bell.

Like the owners of these two horses, Allah does not throw us away just because we are not perfect or because we have problems or challenges. He watches over us and even brings others into our lives to help us when we are in need.

Sometimes we are the blind horse being guided by the little ringing bell of those who Allah places in our lives. Other times we are the guide horse, helping others see.

Good friends are like this. You don't always see them, but you know they are always there. Please listen for my bell and I'll listen for yours. Thanks for being a friend!

A THOUGHT
'I thank you'

Gratitude is an exquisite form of courtesy. People who enjoy the companionship of good, close friends are those who don't take daily courtesies for granted. They are quick to thank their friends for their many expressions of kindness. On the other hand, people whose circle of friends is severely constricted often do not have the attitude of gratitude.

THE SMILE
Gammatjie and Abdoltjie locked the car in a hurry, forgetting to remove the key, which was in the ignition. Realizing the mistake, Abdoltjie asked, "Why don't we get a coat hanger to open it." "No, that won't work" answered Gammatjie. "People will think we're trying to break in." So Abdoltjie suggested, "What if we use a pocket knife to cut around the rubber, then stick a finger in and pull up the lock?" "No," said Gammatjie. "People will think we're too dumb to use a coat hanger."

"Well," sighed Abdoltjie, "we'd better think of something fast. It's starting to rain, and the sun roof is open!"
