MAYYITS (FUNERALS)
none

FIQH (ISLAMIC JURISPRUDENCE)
Before commencing with Salaah, several things are Wajib (compulsory). If one does not have Wudhu, then Wudhu should be made. If there is a need to have a bath, then a bath should be taken. If there is any impurity on the body or clothes, it should be purified. The place where Salaah is being offered should also be pure. Apart from the face, hands and feet, the entire body from head to toe should be well covered. One should face the Qiblah. An intention should be made for the Salaah which one wishes to offer. The Salaah should be offered after the entry of that Salaah time. All these are prerequisites or conditions for Salaah. If any one of these prerequisites are not done, Salaah will not be valid.

THE MESSAGE
Repel boredom with work
[From the book ‘laa tahzan’]
------------------------------
Those who have nothing to do with their lives are the same people who spend most of their time spreading rumours and falsehood, mainly because their minds are devoid of beneficial thoughts: “They are content to be with those [the women) who sit behind [at home]. Their hearts are sealed up from right guidance) so they understand not. (Quran 9: 87)

When you find yourself to be idle, prepare for depression and despair, because idleness allows your mind to wander in the past, the present, and the future, with all of their difficulties. Therefore, my sincere advice to you is to perform fruitful acts instead of being idle, for idleness is a slow and veiled form of suicide.

Idleness is like the slow torture that is inflicted upon prisoners: they are placed under a tap, from which a drop of water falls only after every hour. During the period of waiting between drops, many of them lose their minds and are driven to insanity.

Being inactive means being negligent of one's duties. Idleness is an expert thief and your mind is its victim.

Therefore get up now and say a prayer or read a book; praise your Lord, study, write, organize your library, fix something in your house, or benefit others so that you can put all ends to your inactivity. I say this only because I sincerely wish for your betterment.

Do not be a mimicker. Destroy boredom by working. When you apply this simple precept alone, you will have traveled at least fifty percent of the way towards happiness. Look at fanners, carpenters, and the bread-maker, and observe how, when they are working, they recite words as melodious as the singing of birds, because they are content. Afterwards observe yourself and how you toss and turn on your bed while wiping away your tears, always miserable, always torturing yourself.

DUA/PRAYER
ANOTHER DUA FOR PROTECTION
ALLAHU AHAD ALLAHU SAMAD LAM YALID WALAM YOOLID WALAM YAKUN LAHOO KUFUWAN AHAD. Allah is One. Allah is independent. He did not give birth to anyone nor was He given birth to and there is none equal to Him.

HEALTH TIP
Muscles and Aging

Even without suffering a major trauma to the body, we lose muscle and strength at an alarming rate as we age. Some studies say the process begins in our early twenties: other studies say by the age of forty we lose muscle each year. The process is particularly significant for women, who tend to have smaller bodies and smaller bones and are not as used as men are to exerting their bodies against resistance.

If you don't use a muscle it weakens rapidly, as the NASA scientists discovered when the first men they sent up into space returned with significant muscle and strength loss. Why? The astronauts didn't use their muscles to get around in their weightless environment.
--excerpt from Strength Training on the Ball by Colleen Craig.

HANDY HINT
Reference books are great to have as part of your library if you are actually going to refer to them. If not, then you know what to do! If you do decide to keep a reference book, make sure the material is current or relevant to the times. Remember, there is tons of available information on the Internet, a very valuable paperless resource.

A THOUGHT
Like a spade in the hands of a gardener, our hands are our Master's hints to us. Yes, if ye consider, they are His directions to us. When ye have taken to heart His hints, ye will shape your life in reliance on their direction. Wherefore these hints disclose His intent, take the burden from you, and appoint your work. He that bears it makes it bearable by you. He that is able makes it within your ability.

THE SMILE
A new doctor had arrived in town. He could cure anything and anybody. Everyone was amazed with what he could do - everyone except for Mr. Thompson, the town skeptic.

Grumpy old Mr. Thompson went to visit this 'miracle doctor' to prove that he wasn't anybody special. When it was time for his appointment he told the doctor, “Hey, doc, I've lost my sense of taste. I can't taste anything”, so what are ya going' to do?”

The doctor scratched his head and mumbled to himself a little, then told Mr. Thompson, “What you need is jar number 47.”

So the doctor brought the jar out, opened it, and told Mr. Thompson to taste it. He tasted it and immediately spit it out, “This is gross!” he yelled. “Looks like I just restored your sense of taste Mr. Thompson,” said the doctor. So Mr. Thompson went home.... very mad.

One month later, Mr. Thompson decides to go back to the doctor and try once again to expose him as a fake, by complaining of a new problem. “Doc,” he started, “I can't remember anything!” Thinking he had the doctor stumped now, he waited as the doctor scratched his head, mumbled to himself a little, and told Mr. Thompson, “What you need is jar number 47, it's......” But before the doctor could finish his sentence, Mr. Thompson was cured and fled the room!
