HADITH, SAYINGS/TRADITIONS OF MUHAMMAD SAW
Abu Mas`ud Al-Badri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, "When someone spends on his family seeking his reward for it from Allah, it is counted as a charity from him". [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary: `Seeking his reward' means that one is supporting his family as a duty entrusted by Allah. It is also warranted by compassion for the near ones. A person who does it as a duty ordained by Allah and shows mercy to his deserving relatives to attain His Pleasure then what he spends with this intention on his children will be eligible for reward from Allah.

THE MESSAGE
Discover the 90/10 Principle
Author: Stephen Covey

It will change your life (at least the way you react to situations).

What is this principle? 10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided by how you react. What does this mean? We really have no control over 10% of what happens to us.

We cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane will be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut us off in traffic.

We have no control over this 10%. The other 90% is different. You determine the other 90%. How? …By your reaction. You cannot control a red light. but you can control your reaction. Don't let people fool you; YOU can control how you react. read more

DUA/PRAYER
What to Say at Times of Grief, Concern, and Sadness

At times of distress Rasulullah SAW would say La 'ilãha 'illã 'allãhu 'al-`atheemu 'al-haleemu, la 'ilãha 'illã 'allãhu rabbul `arshil-`atheemi, la 'ilãha 'illã 'allãhu rabbus-samãwãti wa rabbul-'ardhi wa rabbul-`arshil-kareemi There is no 'ilãh except Allah The Magnificent, The Forbearing. There is no 'ilãh except Allah Lord of the Magnificent Throne. There is no 'ilãh except Allah Lord of the Heavens, Lord of the Earth, and Lord of the Noble Throne.

THE STORY
IN THE BEGINNING…
A long time ago there was nothing except Allah. There were no stars and there was no Earth.  There were no animals and there was no sky. Allah existed alone.

Then Allah created the angels from light which constantly praise Him and do well. The main angels have names like Jibreel, Izrael, Izrafil, and Michael. Allah next created the jinns from fire.  Some jinns are good and some are mischievous, but all the jinns know that Allah is their creator and that He is All-Powerful.

After the angels and the jinns, Allah created Heaven. Heaven has rivers flowing underneath the ground with rich green carpets to relax on, and majestic fruit trees overhanging in abundance.  Heaven is too beautiful to put down in words--it is paradise.

Allah created Hell with columns of fire burning within it. It is like a bottomless pit with nothing at the end except boiling water.  Hell is too horrible to put down in words for it is a terrible place.

He went on to create the stars that you see at night--some twinkling and some constant. In our part of the universe, known as the Milky Way, Allah made the Earth, the Sun, and the Moon. In order to establish Time Allah made the Earth spin around the Sun and the Moon encircle the Earth. From this spinning, the Earth gets the Night and the Day and from the position of the Moon in the sky we can keep track of the months.

Next, Allah moulded the Earth to create deep oceans and high mountains.  He created the clouds to rain on the mountains to form rivers which rush toward the sea. Then, surrounding the Earth, Allah put air which blows from one place to another in a cool breeze or a violent windstorm. All this is under Allah's control.

Allah next created life. He said, "Be," and upon the land plants started to grow, gathering their energy from the Sun. The plants got their water from the rain and their food from the air. When Allah said "Be" again animals started to crawl on the Earth and swim in the oceans. He made a great variety of animals. From the tiny worm to the huge whale: all are within Allah's realm. Allah created all this in six days.

In the Garden of Bliss Allah created a being that was different from any other that he had yet created.  From clay Allah moulded the first man--Adam. Adam was not like the angels or the animals because he had a free will. Allah loved Adam so much that he told the angels and the jinns to bow down to Adam to show their respect to him. They all bowed except Satan--he was a naughty jinn. Allah then ordered Satan out of the Garden but Satan asked Allah to let him exist until the Last Day. Allah let him exist and said that anyone who follows Satan shall be thrown into hell-fire on the Day of Judgement along with Satan himself. From then until the Day of Judgement Satan will always try to make people think bad thoughts and tempt them.

In the Garden of Bliss Allah also created Eve to be the companion to Adam. Together they strolled through the beautiful Garden and ate from the fruit trees that were there. Allah told them not to eat from the Tree of Eternity. He warned Adam and Eve about Satan and not to follow him, but Satan whispered to Adam to take a bite from the fruit on the special tree. When Adam and Eve ate this fruit, they immediately became sorry for breaking Allah's command. Allah ordered Adam and Eve out the Garden and placed them on Earth. Allah said He shall give guidance to Adam and his descendents through different prophets. If people follow Allah's guidance, they have nothing to fear and shall go to Heaven in the Hereafter. PERSONALITY
Abu Marwan Abd al-Malik Ibn Zuhr was born at Seville in 1091/c. 1094 C.E. After completing his education and specializing in medicine, he entered the service of Almoravides. Ibn Zuhr was one of the greatest physicians and clinicians of the Muslim golden era and has rather been held by some historians of science as the greatest of them. Contrary to the general practice of the Muslim scholars of that era, he confined his work to only one field medicine. This enabled him to produce works of everlasting fame.

As a physician, he made several discoveries and breakthroughs. He described correctly, for the first time, scabies, the itch mite and may thus be regarded as the first parasitologist. Likewise, he prescribed tracheotomy and direct feeding through the gullet and rectum in the cases where normal feeding was not possible. He also gave clinical descriptions of mediastinal tumours, intestinal phthisis, inflammation of the middle ear, pericarditis, etc.

His contribution was chiefly contained in the monumental works written by him; out of these, however, only three are extant. Kitab al-Taisir fi al-Mudawat wa al-Tadbir (Book of Simplification concerning Therapeutics and Diet), written at the request of Ibn Rushd (Averroes), is the most important work of Ibn Zuhr. It describes several of Ibn Zuhr's original contributions. The book gives in detail pathological conditions, followed by therapy. His Kitab al-Iqtisad fi Islah al-Anfus wa al-Ajsad (Book of the Middle Course concerning the Reformation of Souls and the Bodies) gives a summary of diseases, therapeutics and hygiene written specially for the benefit of the layman. Its initial part is a valuable discourse on psychology. Kitab al-Aghthiya (Book on Foodstuffs) describes different types of food and drugs and their effects on health.

Ibn Zuhr in his works lays stress on observation and experiment and his contribution greatly influenced the medical science for several centuries both in the East and the West. His books were translated into Latin and Hebrew and remained popular in Europe as late as the advent of the 18th century.

A THOUGHT
The wit taught by Allah to the bee is withheld from the lion and the wild ass. It fills its cells with liquid sweets, for Allah opens the door of this knowledge to it.

The skill taught by Allah to the silkworm is a learning beyond the reach of the elephant. The earthly Adam was taught of Allah names, so that His glory reached the Seventh Heaven. He laid low the name and fame of the angels, yet blind indeed are they whom Allah dooms to doubt!

THE SMILE
A man walks past a beggar every day and gives him R10 and that continues for a year. Then suddenly the daily donation changes to R7,50.

"Well," the beggar thinks, "it's still better than nothing."
A year passes in this way until the man's daily donation suddenly becomes R5.
"What's going on now?" the beggar asks his donor. "First you give me R10 every day, then R7,50 and now only R5. What's the problem?"

"Well," the man says, "last year my eldest son went to university. It's very expensive, so I had to cut costs. This year my eldest daughter also went to university, so I had to cut my expenses even further."

"And how many children do you have?" the beggar asks.
"Four," the man replies.
"Well," says the beggar, "I hope you don't plan to educate them all at my expense."
