HADITH/SAYINGS OF MUHAMMAD (SAW)

Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Abu Talhah RA was the richest among the Ansar of Al-Madinah and possessed the largest property; and among his possessions what he loved most was his garden known as Bairuha' which was opposite the Masjid, and the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) often visited it and drank from its fresh water. When this ayah was revealed: "By no means shall you attain Al-Birr (piety, righteousness - here it means Allah's reward, i.e., Jannah), unless you spend (in Allah's Cause) of that which you love,'' (3:92). Abu Talhah came to Messenger of Allah (PBUH), and said: "Allah says in His Book: `By no means shall you attain Al-Birr, unless you spend (in Allah's Cause) of that which you love,' and the dearest of my property is Bairuha' so I have given it as Sadaqah (charity) for Allah's sake, and I anticipate its reward with Him; so spend it, O Messenger of Allah, as Allah guides you". Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Well-done! That is profitable property. I have heard what you have said, but I think you should spend it on your nearest relatives.'' So Abu Talhah distributed it among his nearest relatives and cousins. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Commentary: This Hadith deals with the merits of spending of what one loves best in the way of Allah. Benevolence to the relatives. While spending in the way of Allah, one should always first of all consider his relatives and help those of them who deserve assistance. After fulfilling their needs, if anything remains then it can be given to others.

RECIPE

FISH CURRY
------------

1 kg fish - 1 Tbsp dry coriander seeds - 6 or 7 cloves of garlic - 6 red chillies - 1 tbsp jeero - Juice of 1 lemon - 1 tsp turmeric - 1 ½ tsp salt - 1 Tbsp oil - 1 Tbsp grated coconut.

Pound chillies, garlic, jeero , coconut, and coriander. Add dry spices and mix into paste with oil, lemon juice. Smear fish slices and let them marinate for at least one hour. Keep in fridge and fry when required. Masala smeared fish freezers very well. When required thaw at room temperature.

Fry in hot oil on both sides till it is golden brown. Any masala that is shaken off in process of frying must be rescued by straining oil when frying is done. This masala is sprinkled over platter with fish. Decorate with strips of green chillies or orange on bed of lettuce and slices of lemon.

Prepare ingredients as for masala fish above smear fish slices with masala but leaving aside about tablespoon of it. Grate 1 onion and fry it in a little oil. When a golden colour add 2 cups of fresh tomato in the pot of oil and onions. Add 1 sprig of curry leaves or thyme. Now put masalad slices of fish in this pot or casserole and cook slowly over low heat. For best results, bake in hot oven till fish is done and gravy thick.

POEM
ALLAH
-------
Before summertime, the cherry blossom looks like pink icing
The ground beneath shoots up daffodils
Trumpeting their praises to Allaah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala)
During summer the days are long and hot

The trees are green and shady.
Flowers bloom bright and perfumed
Bees hover and drive for pollen.
Before wintertime, Allah paints the leaves red, orange, and gold.
They cover the springy moss with a colorful carpet.
Squirrels scurry, choosing the juiciest nuts to store for their winter larder.

In winter Allah causes the earth to die hard and cold
He permits water to form stalactites and fossilize animal bones
Reminding us that He is the One who brings back to life His creation...

THE SMILE
COW ON THE TRACK
--------------------
A passenger train is creeping along, slowly. Finally it creaks to a halt. A passenger sees a conductor walking by outside.
"What's going on?" she yells out of the window.
"Cow on the track!" replies the conductor.
Ten minutes later, the train resumes its slow pace.
Within five minutes, however, it stops again.
The woman sees the same conductor walk again.
She leans out of the window and yells, "What happened? Did we catch up with the cow again?"
