QUOTE

"How often it is that a small action becomes great by its intention. And how often it is that a great action becomes small by its intention."

~ (Abd Allah ibn Mubarak (Allah be pleased with him) ~

PERSONALITY
Aous bin As-Saamit bin Qais Al-Khazraji Al-Ansaari RA
--------------------------------------------------------
An exalted companion and the brother of 'Ibaadah bin As-Saamit RA. He was in attendance at the Battle of Badr and all of them with the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him). He was the one who told his wife that she was like his mother, (he was making her unlawful to him by that statement). His wife, Khaulah bint Tha'alabah RA said: "My husband, Aous bin As-Saamit, turned his back on me". Thus the noble verse of the Quran was revealed: {Indeed Allah has heard the statement of her [Khaulah bint Tha'alibah] that disputes with you [Mohammed] concerning her husband [Aous bin As-Saamat] and complains to Allah. And Allah hears the argument between you both. Verily Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.}, (She That Disputes, Chapter 58, Verse 1).

Aous RA was one of the first champions of Islam, as well as having been a poet. From his poetry, as reported by Ibn Abbass (Allah be pleased with them both): “Ana ibnu 'Amru wah Wajdi Abuhu 'Aamir ma'a As-Samaa'i.”

He and Shadaad bin Aous Al-Ansaari RA resided in Bait Al-Maqdis (Jerusalem). It has been said that he died in Ramlah in the land of Filistine (Palestine), in the year 34 A.H., when he was seventy-two years.

RECIPE
FISH AND CHIPS
Serves 4-6

------------
1 kg fresh hake, skinned and filleted - Salt and pepper - Flour for dusting.

BATTER
250 ml flour - 3 ml salt - 30 g butter, melted1 extra large egg.

CHIPS
6 large potatoes, peeled - Oil for deep frying.

Cut fish into portions, season and dust lightly with flour. Make batter by sifting flour and salt into bowl. Whisk butter and egg with a fork, then add water and stir into dry ingredients to form a smooth batter. For really smooth batter use electric, just for 1 or 2 mins. Set aside and prepare chips. Cut potatoes into sticks rinse and dry with paper towel. Preheat oil until cube of bread dropped into oil browns in seconds. Fry chips until beginning to brown and remove from oil onto draining paper. Dip fish into batter and fry in hot oil for 3 to 5 mins, turn over and fry on other side. Remove and place on draining paper. Refry chips until heated through and crisp, and serve immediately with fish.

HANDY HINT
Minimize Maintenance in the garden: Cut back on fertilizers; and, Prune only when necessary. Fertilizing and pruning cause plants to produce tender, succulent growth, which is what bugs prefer most. Besides, who says that plants should be forced to grow faster than their normal growth rate, or that plant should be pruned in some fashion other than the way nature intended them to grow?

A THOUGHT
Some people are able to trust others until proven wrong. Some people are leery until there has been sufficient proof that trusting is a sound idea within a new situation. Either way, trust is fragile and can be betrayed. You always have the right to walk away completely from someone that betrays your trust, even the first time.

Chances are along the way, many people will let you down. So another option when you feel betrayed is to eventually bring up the issues with that person who betrayed you and share your feelings, set the record straight. Let both sides be heard.

This will not be an easy conversation and it might take a few hours. At the end of it, one of you may even feel worse for a while. But clearing the air, sharing and listening is a part of friendship, dignity and respect. Whether or not you choose to walk any further in this lifetime with the one who betrayed you or with the one you betrayed… it is best to take an opportunity to open up the past, gain understanding, and allow for some kind of healing taking place.

THE SMILE

PARENT EDUCATION
--------------------
On a flight, I was preparing my notes for one of the parent education seminars I conduct as an educational psychologist. The elderly woman sitting next to me explained that she was returning after having spent two weeks visiting her six children, 18 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Then she inquired what I did for a living. I told her, fully expecting her to question me for free professional advice. Instead she sat back and said, "If there's anything you want to know, just ask me."
