SURAH AL-MURSALAAT - (Those Sent) - 77
In the name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Very-Merciful

And when the messengers will be assembled at the appointed time, (then all matters will be decided.) [11]
Do you know) for which day has all this been delayed? [12]
For the Day of Decision! [13]
And what may let you know what the Day of Decision is? [14]
Woe, that Day, to the deniers! [15]
Did We not destroy the earlier people? [16]

The fourth event is described in the following verse:
(and when the messengers will be assembled at the appointed time, [then all matters will be decided.) [77:11]

The word Uqqitat is derived from Tauqit which primarily means 'appointment of time'. According to Zamakhshari, it signifies 'to arrive at an appointed time' [as cited in Rill). In this context, the second meaning appears to be more appropriate. The verse signifies that the appointed time for the Prophets and Messengers to assemble with their communities will arrive, so that all matters concerning them may be decided. The verses further describe the Day of Judgement as the great and horrible day and the Day of Decision. It shall be the day of destruction for the deniers and rejecters, thus: (Woe, that Day, to the deniers!...77:15)

The word wail means 'destruction'. According to certain Hadith narratives, the word wail is a 'valley of Hell where the pus of the wounds of the inmates of Hell will be collected. This is the place where the deniers will live. After this, the present-day people are asked to learn a lesson from [the destruction] of the former generations, thus: (Did We not destroy the earlier people?..77:16)

It refers to the nations of 'Ad, Thamild, nation of Lut and Fir'aun (The Pharaoh) who were destroyed because of their obstinacy.

THE MESSAGE

IN SEARCH OF BODY BEAUTIFUL
---------------------------------
There seems no limit nowadays to the extent that women (and men!) are prepared to go to in order to achieve that 'perfect look'. Forget false eyelashes and wigs, we are now talking scalpels, implants and liposuction!!

Cosmetic surgery amongst film actresses has been commonplace for quite some time now, but these days, we wouldn't be too hard pressed to find ordinary women on the street who are more plastic than real! Indeed, in some circles, having multiple facelifts has become a status symbol: the more you have, the higher you are in the status rankings.

If questioned whether cosmetic surgery was islamically correct or not, then without doubt, most Muslims would instinctively respond by saying that it isn't, for the simple reason that it would be interfering with Allaah's creation. And certainly, this would be the correct response. The Companion, Ibn Mas'ood, radiAllaahu 'anhu, once said (quoting what he had heard the Prophet, sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam, say): "Allaah has cursed the tattooers and those who have themselves tattooed, and those women who have their teeth filed for beauty and those who have their [facial] hair plucked and thus alter Allaah's creation." A woman remarked, "What's all this?" So Ibn Mas'ood - radiAllaahu 'anhu - said: "Should I not curse one whom Allaah's Messenger cursed? And it is in the Book of Allaah!" She said: "I have read the Qur'aan from cover to cover, but I did not find that in it." He replied: "If you had read it thoroughly you would have found it. Allaah says, 'Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it and whatever he has forbidden, retrain from it.'" [Sooratul-Hashr (59):7]

So the Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam, forbade women from performing these three practices which the women commonly did for the sake of beauty in those days - seemingly 'insignificant' practices for which they would incur the CURSE of Allaah. And this forbiddence isn't just restricted to the procedures mentioned in the hadeeth. Because Allaah says in more general terms in His Book: "So set your face truly to the faith, Allaah's handiwork according to the pattern on which He has made mankind, [Let there be] no change in the creation of Allaah." [Soorah ar-Room (30):30]

A THOUGHT

THE SON
---------
An old man, who possessed abundant wealth and a beautiful son. One night narrated that he had all his life no other son but this boy, telling me that in the locality people resorted at a certain place in a valley to offer petitions and that he had during many nights prayed there, till the Almighty granted him this son. I overheard the boy whispering to his friend: 'How good it would be if I knew where that place was that I might pray for my father to die.'

Moral: The gentleman is delighted that his son is intelligent and the boy complains that his father is a dotard.

Years elapse without thy visiting
The tomb of thy father.
What good hast thou done to him
To expect the same from thy son?

REFERENCES
--------------
My 17-year-old niece asked me if she could use my name as a reference on her resume', which she planned to submit to a local fast-food restaurant. I agreed.

A few days later she called and asked me to meet her at the restaurant later that afternoon. When I asked her why, she replied, "The manager wants me to come in for an interview, and she told me to bring my references."
