Ali bin Abi Taalib RA appointed him as successor (in his absence) over Al-Madinah, then over Iraq. After that he was constantly with him and fought the Al-Khawaarij with him. He said, Allah, the Almighty, said (in Surah 9, p/o verse 41), March forth, whether you are light (being healthy, young and wealthy) or heavy (being ill, old and poor). I am not heavy or light, because of that the struggle becomes necessary. He reported about the Prophet (Peace be upon him) and about the community of Sahaabah and Taabi'yeen.

He died a martyr in Jihaad (struggling in the cause of Allah), in the year 52 AH, in all probability. He was in the army of Yazeed bin Mu'aawiyah bin Abi Sufyaan that battled against Rome. Yazeed went to visit him and said, What do you need, Oh Companion of the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him)! He said, (Provide) my needs if I die. I ride and arrive in the earth of the enemy and find what I meet. If you don't find (it), bury me and then return. He died (Allah be pleased with him). Yazeed carried out his wishes as he had been requested, even burying him under the wall of Al-Qastantiniyah. His grave is known. (They [the people there] pray for rain at it. They say it's the grave of a pious man).

Five people were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded near an army vehicle in northwestern Pakistan on Tuesday, the third blast to hit the country in three days.

Israeli troops have shot a 16-year-old boy dead near the occupied West Bank city of Nablus. Apartheid Israel says they suspect the boy was a human bomber. Israeli troops later entered the village to search for the house of the attacker's family.

Survivors of last week's devastating earthquake in China's Sichuan province are expecting more aftershocks. According to their weather forecast a quake measuring between 6 – 7 is likely to hit soon.

ANC Secretary-General, Gwede Mantashe, has called for the deployment of troops to help police curb the ongoing xenophobic related violence in Gauteng. He says if the attacks are not stopped, the violence will engulf the entire country. Thousands of foreign nationals have been attacked in xenophobic related incidents since last week. At least 22 people have so far been killed in Gauteng alone and businesses belonging to foreign nationals have been destroyed.

Eskom has announced that it will supply rebates of up to 20 percent to people who install accredited solar water-heating systems in their homes as part of the organisation's solar rebate programme. The energy parastatal announced on Monday that homeowners could save up to R4 900 by taking part in the rebate programme.
