THE FRIDAY KHUTBAH (SERMON)
ISLAM IS THE RELIGION OF MERCY AND STRENGTH
by Shaykh Saalih bin Humayd - IMAAM OF HARAM
----------------------------------------------
All praise is due to Allaah, lord of the Worlds. May peace and blessings be upon the Messenger, his household and companions.

Fellow Muslims! Fear Allaah for it is by it that high positions can be attained. Work for your Hereafter in this world. Beware of wasting your lives in vanities, for those with stone hearts shall regret. Purify yourselves from sins with a lot of sincere tears and soften your hearts by remembering the Last Day; a day that men will be as in a drunken state and confused because of horror. Allaah says, “That Day, you shall be brought to judgement not a secret of you will be hidden.” (Al-Haqqah 69:18)

Fellow Muslims! Islaam appeared at a time when nations were fiercely waging wars against one another and these wars were fuelled by covetous desires of elders and their voracious lust for expansions and autocracy.

Then Islaam came with its civilization while the whole world was being ruled by jungle justice. The strong used to kill the weak and the armed would kill the unarmed. Wars were raging without limit or control. Whoever possessed a power would unsheathe his weapon to manipulate the weak nation, seize its land, overpower it and force his belief upon it.

As for the Arabs of those days, attacks had eaten deep into them and wars had become part of their life. This had reached a stage that when they found no far-off enemy to attack they would attack their neighbours and even clansmen. It was in these dark ages that the spring of Islaam gushed out and many stiff hearts became softened and the world embraced a religion that equates faith with security and Islaam with peace. The lustful desire of men then disappears, the insinuations of Satan diminished, usurpation of other people’s rights reduced and the call of the people of faith became, “O you who believe! Enter perfectly in Islaam.” (Al-Baqarah 2:208) read more

DUA/PRAYER
Rabbanaa maa khalaqta haathaa baatilan subhaanaka faqina athaaban naar. Our Lord! Thou hast not created this world aimlessly; thou art free from all blemishes so protect us from the fire of hell.

Benefit: It is related from Sayyadina Abu Hurayrah RA that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam recited the last ten verses of Surah Aale Imran (this Dua is among the 10 verses) at night. It is said that one will be rewarded for standing the whole night in Ibaadah (Worship).

NEWS

Afghans want Taliban in power - Afghans are fed up with rising violent crimes and rampant corruption. They are calling for the return of Taliban-style public executions of convicted criminals. Seven convicted criminals have been executed this month after the government resumed carrying out death penalties after a gap of over a year.

A US court has convicted a Syrian-born arms dealer for plotting to sell arms, including anti-aircraft rockets, to Colombian rebels. Monzer al-Kassar was found guilty for conspiracy to murder US officers, to export anti-aircraft weapons, to support Colombia's Farc rebels, and for money laundering by the New York court.

The world's largest oil tanker company and other maritime officials have said a more aggressive military approach is needed to tackle piracy off the coast of Somalia. "I think that's the only solution," Martin Jensen, acting chief executive officer of Oslo-based Frontline Ltd, said on Friday. Pirates have demanded a $25 million ransom for the Saudi Arabian-owned Sirius Star tanker which was carrying more than two million barrels of oil when it was seized in the Indian Ocean.

The South African Cabinet has shelved its already approved R300 million food aid package to Zimbabwe because it cannot transfer the much needed funds until a multi party government is formed in that country. But it appears starving Zimbabweans will bear the brunt of political indecision as theruling Zanu-PF and the two opposition MDC factions remain deadlocked on how power should be shared.

Cope executive member Mluleki George says The Congress of the People is talking to other political parties on possible merging. He says it would currently not be ethical to say what those parties were. George says Cope would discuss coalitions only after the coming elections, if it did not have enough votes to govern.

A THOUGHT

EATING IN EXCESS
------------------
One of the philosophers forbade his son to eat much because repletion keeps people ailing. The boy replied: 'O father, it is hunger that kills. Hast thou not heard of the maxim of the ingenious that it is better to die satiated than to bear hunger?' He rejoined: 'Be moderate. Eat and drink but not to excess.'

Eat not so much that it comes up to thy mouth
Nor so little that from weakness thy soul comes up.

Although maintenance of life depends upon food
Victuals bring on disease when eaten to excess.
If thou eatest rose-confectionery without appetite it injures thee
But eating dry bread after a long fast is like rose-preserve.

THE SMILE

WAKE UP, SON
--------------
Early one morning, a mother went in to wake up her son. "Wake up, son. It's time to go to school!"

"But why, Mom? I don't want to go."
"Give me two reasons why you don't want to go."
"Well, the kids hate me for one, and the teachers hate me, too!"
"Oh, that's no reason not to go to school. Come on now and get ready."
"Give me two reasons why I should go to school."

"Well, for one, you're 52 years old. And for another, you're the Principal!"
