"Firstly I thank Allah for this amazing award and for blessing me with the privilege of working at such a highly esteemed radio station. I thank all those responsible for helping me reach these heights and make dua that Allah blesses them in abundance! Inshaa Allah I will try to work even harder, and with the guidance of those above me and my little butterflies, I will aim to be an ambassador for Radio Islam Inshaa Allah! To one and all, jazakallah for all the duas, love, encouragement and support. I truly do appreciate it." (Sr. Sameera - Butterfly corner presenter)

* Radio Islams Ismail Variava got inducted to the Hall of Fame at the MTN Awards for many years service to Radio.

"It is an honour that Allah Ta’aala has given me the opportunity to serve his deen through media. This achievement would never have been possible without the help of Allah Ta’aala and the support of our loyal listeners." (Ismail Variawa)

"Ismail Variawa was at the forefront in getting Radio Islam onair over a decade ago. His quiet and dignified demeanour belies his passion and his drive for community radio and, as a result, many of his achievements go largely unnoticed…He is viewed widely as a source of reference by those involved in radio and media." (MTN judging commitee)

* Radio Islam also won the "My Station" award where listeners voted by sms. Jazakallah to all those who voted. We really appreciated it. Once again proving that the station is nothing without its listeners.

And the big one...

* Radio Islam won Community Radio Station of the year at the MTN Radio Awards beating SAfm and Radio 2000 Alhamdulillah.

"It is always a pleasure and privilege to recognize and reward a station that takes delight in what it does; one that is passionate and enthusiastic about radio and committed to the medium. Radio Islam, this years community station of the year is a really worthy winner...It is not only an excellent example of community radio – serving its community exceptionally well – it is also a shining example of how good radio can be made. With an intimate understanding of its listeners, and an understanding of the role it can play in fulfilling the information, entertainment, education and cultural needs of this community, Radio Islam fills a much needed role in their life and lifestyle...Its programmes are focused, the news is professional and its listeners are fully catered to. Radio Islam demonstrates versatility in what it serves to its community and, unsurprisingly, the station has a loyal and commited following...The judges reviewing the station’s submissions commented on the, passion, pride and level of professionalism displayed, and many of the submissions could serve as an example for better - resourced commercial stations. We would also like to acknowledge all those who contributed towards the establishment and programmes of the station over the years." (Programmes Manager - Ml. Sulaiman Ravat)

"Well done to Radio Islam. Keep up the good work. You are the leaders in community radio." (Talk Radio 702 Boss - Yusuf Abramjee)

I am thankful for the wife who says it's hot dogs tonight because she is home with me and not with someone else.

For the husband who is on the sofa who is being a couch potato because he is home with me and not out with someone else.

For the teenager who is complaining about doing dishes, because that he or she is at home, not on the streets.

For the taxes that I pay, because it means that i, am employed.

For the mess to clean after a function, because it means that i have been surrounded by friends.

For the clothes that fit a little too snug, because it means I have enough to eat.

For my shadow that watches me work, because it means I am in the sunshine.

For a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing, because it means I have a home.

For all the complaining I hear about the government, because it means that we have freedom of speech.

For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot, because it means I am able to walk and that I have been blessed with transportation.

For my huge heating bill, because it means I am warm.

For the pile of laundry and ironing, because it means I have clothes to wear.

For weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day, because it means I have been capable of working hard. For the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours, because it means that I am alive.

And finally...

We are thankful for the suggestions, compliments, complaints and criticism over the years, because it means our efforts are not in vain and you are out there listening and supporting us.

"To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream. Not only plan, but also believe." Antole France

Dear listeners/subscribers Radio Islam International thanks you sharing the dream, joining the act, being part of the plan and holding the belief.

THE SMILE

Staying with awards...'Stella Awards'! For those unfamiliar with these awards, they are named after 81-year-old Stella Liebeck who spilled hot coffee on herself and successfully sued the McDonald's in New Mexico, where she purchased the coffee. You remember, she took the lid off the coffee and put it between her knees while she was driving. Take a lokk at a recent winner...

First Place Stella Award winner (2009 Edition)was: Mrs. Merv Grazinski, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, who purchased a new 32-foot Winnebago motor home. On her first trip home, from an OU football game, having driven onto the freeway, she set the cruise control at 70 mph and calmly left the driver's seat to go to the back of the Winnebago to make herself a sandwich. Not surprisingly, the motor home left the freeway, crashed and overturned. Also not surprisingly, Mrs. Grazinski sued Winnebago for not putting in the owner's manual that she couldn't actually leave the driver's seat while the cruise control was set. The Oklahoma jury awarded her, are you sitting down?

$1,750,000 PLUS a new motor home. Winnebago actually changed their manuals as a result of this suit, just in case Mrs. Grazinski has any relatives who might also buy a motor home.
