LATEST HAPPENINGS

With the tour of Hafiz Abu Bakr deemed a success and roadshows in full swing, worn out tires, endless petrol price hikes and pot holes thought to be dams are just some of the difficulties that the Radio Islam International team had to face in recent months.

From the sweet timeless oceans of Kwazulu Natal to the pristine greenery of the North West, the team has been there, bringing you quality content right to your door. Even though Radio Islam's focus is mainly on the airwaves, a major portion of effort is directed to programmes, roadshows and activities off the airwaves.

Sending a letter to a friend and making the trip to go and personally meet him can never be the same. Face to face interaction has a greater effect on the persons heart. Likewise, propagating this beautiful Deen via radio has its benefits however roadshows and programmes personally conducted by the Radio Islam team in various communities will have a much greater effect thus allowing the community to receive and absorb the jems of this beautiful Deen with warmth and ease.

Taking the first step into a community worthy of effort, rich in potential and thirsty for Deen, the next venue to catch our interests is Soweto. A township just a few km's from Radio Islam's hometown, Lenasia. Hoping to make this a regular on the list of events, the team will be holding a programme for the minority Muslims as well as the non Muslim majority. Keeping the above mentioned facts in mind, an introduction to Islam will be given with the theme being 'commonalities between Islam and Christianity'. The guest speaker for the programme will be Radio Islam presenter and specialist in the field Sheikh Saami Jaad who hosts the Dawa programme on Radio Islam. Radio Islam presenters and other staff members will be at the programme, snacks will be served and most importantly for such communities, a Q. and A. session will take place.

The programme will take place on Sunday the 12th of June 2011 at the Mavis Hall, corner of Vundla drive and Crutse Street, Rockville between 2 and 4 pm. The programme will be live on Radio Islam MW1548. A request is made for Duaas in this regard, keeping in mind that like all events, a collective effort will produce a sucessful event.

WHAT ARE THE CHANCES...

* Henry Ziegland thought he had dodged fate. In 1883, he broke off a relationship with his girlfriend who, out of distress, committed suicide. The girl's brother was so enraged that he hunted down Ziegland and shot him. The brother, believing he had killed Ziegland, then turned his gun on himself and took his own life. But Ziegland had not been killed. The bullet, in fact, had only grazed his face and then lodged in a tree. Ziegland surely thought himself a lucky man. Some years later, however, Ziegland decided to cut down the large tree, which still had the bullet in it. The task seemed so formidable that he decided to blow it up with a few sticks of dynamite. The explosion propelled the bullet into Ziegland's head, killing him.

* British cavalry officer Major Summerford was fighting in the fields of Flanders in the last year of WW1, a flash of lightning knocked him off his horse and paralysed him from his waist down.

He moved to Vancouver, Canada, six years later, whilst out fishing, Major Summerfield was struck by lightning again and the right side of his body became paralysed.

After two years of recovery, it was a summers day and he was out in a local park, a summer storm blew up and Major Summerfield was struck by lightning again - permanently paralysing him. He died two years after this incident.

However, four years after his death, his stone tomb was destroyed - it was struck by lightning!

* Michael Dick had been travelling around the UK with his family to track down his
daughter, Lisa - who he had lost contact with ten years earlier. After a long fruitless search, he approached the Suffolk Free Press, who agreed to help him by putting an appeal in their newspaper.
Fortunately, his long lost daughter saw the appeal and the pair were reunited. The odd thing was, his daughter had been walking in the background of the photo right behind him when the paper took the photograph - What are the chances of that!
