STORY

THE BRICK

A young and successful executive was travelling down a neighbourhood street, going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something.

As his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag's side door! He slammed on the brakes and backed the Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown.

The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, 'What was that all about and who are you? Just what do you think you are you doing? That's a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?' The young boy was apologetic.

'Please, mister...please, I'm sorry but I didn't know what else to do,' He pleaded. 'I threw the brick because no one else would stop....' With tears dripping down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car... 'It's my brother, 'he said 'He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him up.'

Now sobbing, the boy asked the stunned executive, 'Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me.'

Moved beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat... He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the wheelchair, then took out a linen handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh scrapes and cuts. A quick look told him everything was going to be okay. 'Thank you and may you be blessed,' the grateful child told the stranger. Too shook up for words, the man simply watched the boy! push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home..

It was a long, slow walk back to the Jaguar. The damage was very noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the dented side door. He kept the dent there to remind him of this message: 'Don't go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!' Our Creator whispers in our souls and speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don't have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us. It's our choice to listen or not.

There is no promise of days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but there is a promise of strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way.

Read this line very slowly and let it sink in...

If Allah brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

DID YOU KNOW (Countries)

* The only country that has changed the pronounciation of its name is Kenya. While it was formerly pronounced "KEEN-ya", the name is now pronounced "KEN-ya", like the last name of leader Jomo Kenyatta was pronounced.

* Everyone in Iceland is literate. Every Icelander must graduate from school in order to get a job, and he has to be able to speak three languages. (The "native" language, namely Icelandic - which is the ancient language of the sagas - is spoken in no other country.)

* India has a bill of rights for cows.

* Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia have built a golf course on the border between the three countries. It is a 27-hole course, with nine holes in each country. Much of the course was formerly a minefield.

* At only four lines long, the Japanese national anthem is the shortest national anthem. The national anthems of Jordan and San Marino are also four lines long. The longest is the Greek national anthem at 158 verses long.

THOUGHT
"I think I began learning long ago that those who are happiest are those who do the most for others."
THE SMILE
The European Union commissioners have announced that an agreement has been reached to adopt English as the preferred language for European communications, rather than German, which was the other possibility.

In negotiations, certain compromises had to be made. For instance, Her Majesty’s Government has conceeded that there is some room for improvement in the English language spelling and has accepted a five-year phased plan for what will certainly be known as EuroEnglish (Euro for short). In the first year, “s” will be used instead of the soft “c”. Sertainly, sivil servants will resieve this news with joy. Also, the hard “c” will be replaced with “k.” Not only will this klear up konfusion, but typwriters kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome “ph” will be replaced by “f.” This will make words like “fotograf” 20 per sent shorter.

In the third year, publik akseptans on the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkorage the removal of double letters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of silent “e’s” in the language is disgrasful, and the would go.

By the fourth year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing the “th” by “z,” and “w” by “v.” During ze fifz year, ze unesesary “o” kan be droped from vords kontaining “ou,” and similar changes vud of kors, be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters.

After zi fifz yer, ve vil hav a reli sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubls or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech ozer.

German vil not be spoken and Ze drem vil finali kum tru!!!
