THE FRIDAY SERMON

The Muslim Home

By Sh Abdul Baari Ath-Thubayti - Imaam of Haram

Marriage fulfils the dearest wish for every young man and young woman in their quest for a happy Muslim home, in which they find shelter, peace of mind and happiness, and in which their dreams come true. In this new home a new righteous generation would be raised under the shade of a protective paternity and a sentimental maternity. Therefore, what are the characteristics of such a home? How will it raise its young? How will its happiness be accomplished? Allaah says that which translates as: “And of his signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and he placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.” (Ar-Room: 21).

Such a home is an immense favour from Allaah, which nobody fully appreciates except he who is deprived of it and is forced lived in a shelter home, or prison, or is homeless on the streets in the desert, Allaah says that which translates as: “And Allaah has made for you from your homes a place of rest…” (An-Nahl: 80). Commenting upon this verse, Imaam Ibn Katheer, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said: "Allaah has mentioned the perfection of His favours upon His slaves by mentioning His making homes as shelters which shield and benefit them in many different ways."

The Muslim home is a trust and responsibility that both spouses shoulder, because they are the foundation and the pillars of this home; they are ones who determine the direction of the home, so if they choose to adhere to the straight path theoretically and practically; beautify themselves with internal and external piety, and have good manners and honourable conduct, then this home will be one which raises the next generation upon virtuousness and will illuminate others with its chastity. Such a home is a launching pad for a noble and great nation and a distinguished and respected civilisation. read more

DUA (PRAYER)

About Minor and Great Afflictions Upon the Believer

Allah (SWT) said: "Those that say, when afflicted with calamity...

'Inna lil-lahi wa inna ilay hi raji'oon' (Surah Al Baqarah 2:156)

English meaning is: To Allah we belong, and to Him is our return.

...They are those upon whom (descend) blessings from their Lord and Mercy. And they are the ones that are guided." (Surah al Baqarah 2:157)

Umm Salama (RA) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) saying: "There is not a slave afflicted with a calamity who then says:

"Inna lil-lahi wa inna ilay hi raji

"Inna lil-lahi wa inna ilay hi raji'oona, allahumma'jur nee fee museebatee, wa akh lif lee khay ran minha" (Reported by Muslim, and is #114 in The Authentic of Good Sayings)

English meaning is: We are for Allah, and we are, to Him, returning. 'O my ilah grant me reward in my calamity, and cause it to be succeeded with good consequence for me.

... except that Allah would grant him reward in his calamity, and would succeed it with good consequences for him." (Muslim)

She (Umm Salama (RA) said: ..."So when Abu Salama (RA) (her husband) died: I said like the Messenger (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) had commanded me. So Allah caused him to succeed with one that was better than him for me: the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam). (i.e. she then married the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) Subhana-Allah!!!

Lay them out, dip each kebab into a thin lai then lay on samoosa pur. Roll it so that its covered with pur. Cut off all extra pur make sure all sides are covered. Freeze or fry in hot oil.

COOKING TIP

About Honey - When baking with honey, remember the following:

Reduce any liquid called for by 1/4 cup for each cup of honey used.
Add l/2 teaspoon baking soda for each cup of honey used.
Reduce oven temperature by 25 F to prevent over-browning.

Because of its high fructose content, honey has a higher sweetening power than sugar. This means you can use less honey than sugar to achieve the desired sweetness.

When measuring honey, coat the measuring cup with non-stick cooking spray or vegetable oil before adding the honey. The honey will slide right out.
