QURAAN LESSON

SURAH NOOH 71: (Prophet Nooh Alaihis Salaam)

This Surah is Makki. It has 28 verses and 2 sections.
With the name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Very- Merciful

"Verily we sent Nooh to his nation instructing him, Warn your people before a painful punishment afflicts them" [1] "He said…O my people indeed I am a clear warner to you" [2] "Worship Allah, fear Him and obey me" [3]

COMMENTARY: In the last edition of 'Quraan Lesson', we concluded the previous Surah (Surah Jinn). This Surah focuses mainly on Nooh Alaihis Salaam's preaching and how the Kuffaar rejected. It also speaks about the severe punishment that came to those who rejected the truth.

The Surah starts off by Allah Ta'aala mentioning that Nooh Alaihis Salaam was sent to his people with a message. In Aayat 2, Nooh Alaihis Salaam informed his people that he is a 'Nadhir' which could be translated as warner. It is a common misconception that this word indicates towards making people scared. However the definition of 'Nadhir' or 'Warner' is one who informs you of a danger coming ahead and at the same time informs you of an alternative route to avoid the danger. This is the way all the Ambiyaa Alaihimus Salaam preached. They warned of punishment (They did not scare people) and at the same time gave an alternative method i.e. Islam. In the third Aayat, Nooh Alaihis Salaam instructs his people to worship Allah and obey him as well. This shows that a person has to be believe in Allah and follow the Messenger of the time. One cannot do without the other. One of the two will not suffice and cannot be classified as 'Imaan'.

MESSAGE

You don't have to actually answer the questions. Just ponder over them. Read the message straight through, and you'll get the point.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world?
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners?
3. Name ten people who have won the Nobel Prize?
4. Name five people who have won the Pulitzer Prize?
5. Name ten Olympic winners, any country, any sporting code?
6. Name any five people in parliament?

How did you do?

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies...Awards tarnish...Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Easier?

The lesson: The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials..the most money...or the most awards…

They simply are the ones who care the most!!

Go ahead and return the favours...Don't wait for tomorrow...

It's already tomorrow in Australia...

Or in Some Part of The World!

HEALTH TIP

Dry itchy skin may start to bother you with the heat running in most homes now. You need to moisturize the skin for relief during the "dry" months of winter. Here are some winter skin-care tips:

* Use a humidifier to keep the humidity in your house higher during the months the heat is running.
* Use lip balm to prevent chapped lips.
* Apply moisturizers within three minutes of finishing a bath or shower.
* After washing hands, immediately apply hand cream to seal in moisture.
* Use ointments with zinc and vitamins A and E on problem areas to heal dry skin.
* Use gloves if doing any dishwashing or cleaning with soap and water.

THE SMILE

New Hearing Aid

A man was telling his neighbour, "I just bought a new hearing aid. It cost me twenty thousand rands, but it's state of the art. It's perfect."

"Really," answered the neighbour. "What kind is it?"

"Twelve thirty."
