Man Models Himseld after His Companion

Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari Radiyallahu anhu reported that Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam has said: "The example of a good companion and a bad one is the bearer of musk and the worker on the bellows. A bearer of musk would give you some, you might buy some from him, or you might enjoy the fragrance of his musk. The worker on the bellows, on the other hand, might spoil your clothes with sparks from his bellows, or you get a bad smell from him." (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam uses an effective example to bring to the hearer's conception the impact of good company and bad company.

A good companion is compared to a musk seller or a perfume seller.

A perfume seller might give you some of his fragrance, and a good companion might give you some good advice or a useful tip. A perfume seller can be useful by selling you some of his musk, and a good friend can be useful by responding readily to your demand for help in any matter, mundane or religious. At the very least, a musk seller is nice to have around, even without being beneficial in any practical way, as the pleasant smell emanating from his direction is a pleasure in itself. Similarly, a good companion is at least useful to you for your good name and the pleasure of good company. Just to feel his presence improves your spirits.

In contrast, a bad companion is comparable to a worker on the bellows. If you come close to the bellows, sparks might hit your clothing and make holes in them. Even at some distance, you will feel the stench of burning. Your only hope is in keeping away from the horrid smell. And it is the same way with a bad companion; if you are close to him and identify with him, you will take over some of his perversity, and your character will be harmed, just as your clothes will be spoiled if you come too close to a worker on the bellows. Even if you remain safe from the influence of a bad companion, you cannot escape people talking about you for consorting with bad company. You cannot even be sure that such a person will not adversely affect you in the end.

The following verses from the Qur'an are self explanatory:

"And incline not to those who do wrong, or the fire will seize you" [Hud 11:113)

"Therefore, shun those who turn away from Our remembrance and desire nothing but the life of this world." [An-Najm 53:30]

In another place, the Qur'an directs a believer to seek the company of the well guided.

"Restrain thyself along with those who call on their Lord morning and evening seeking His face." [Al-Kahf 18:28]

On the authority of Abu Hurairah, also corroborates the same concept:

"Man models himself after his companion; so let each one of you see who he chooses for companion"

Q. Explain Salaatut Tahajjud?
A. Salaatut Tahajjud is an optional (Nafl) Salaah that is performed late at night. It is a very powerful method of attaining blessings and forgivness from Allah Ta'aala. The time for this Salaah starts after one has performed his/her Esha Salaah and terminates with the termination of Sehri. Usage of the word 'Sehri' in the previous sentence does not mean that this Salaah is only performed during Ramaadaan. The time of Sehri continues throughout the year and when Sehri terminates the time of Fajr sets in.

Q. Explain the method of performing Salaatut Tahajjud?
A. Salaatut Tahajjud is performed like all the other Salaat. The minimum number of Rakaats is 2 and the maximum is 12. It can be performed in units of 2 or 4 Rakaats. Duaa after this Salaah is readily accepted.

Q. What are the virtues of this Salaah?
A. It is not possible to mention all the virtues however we will mention just a few…

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam has said: "2 Rakaats in the late hours of the night are more valuable than the riches of the world...if it were not for fear of hardship upon my followers I would have made it Fardh (obligatory)."

Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam has said: "When the last of the night remains, our Rabb, the glorious one, descends towards the heavens of the world (His special mercy) and proclaims: Who is there to supplicate to me, so that I can grant his supplication? Who is there who begs of me so I may grant it to him? Who is there who seeks my forgiveness so that I can forgive him?" (Bukhari, Muslim)

Q. Is it necessary to sleep to sleep before performing Salaatut Tahajjud?
A. No, it is not necessary to sleep. If a person knows that he will not wake up late at night he can perform Tahajjud before he retires to bed. However the reward will be much greater and the true benefit will be attained if a person wakes up late at night and performs this Salaah.

RECIPE
LEMON GARLIC CHICKEN RECIPE
Delightful chicken with garlic cloves, vinegar and pepper garnished with lemon, and basil.

Ingredients:
4 chicken Breast Halves (skinless and boneless)
2 Garlic Cloves (minced)
2 tblsp Lemone Juice
1 tsp Paprika
Salt and Pepper according to taste
2 tblsp Margarine or Butter
½ tsp Lemon Zest (grated)

How to make lemon garlic chicken:
Drizzle chicken with salt, paprika and pepper. In a skillet melt butter or margarine over medium-high heat. Combine chicken to skillet when pan becomes hot. Fry chicken on each side till it is slightly browned: it takes about 2-3minutes. Place the chicken on a baking sheet. Sprinkle half of the lemon juice over the chicken. Bake it in a preheated oven to 400 degrees for 5 minutes. Mix garlic to the hot pan and fry till it appears brown in color; it will take about 1 to 2 minutes. Combine lemon zest to the pan after 2 minutes. Reduce by half, then cover it and set aside. Combine lemon juice over the chicken once again. Pour the remaining lemon juice over the chicken once again. Bake for another 5 minutes. Take it out. Place chicken over dish of rice. Spoon the sauce on it. Garnish with some lemon-twists, sage or basil.

HANDY HINT

* Vacuum Sealed... The easiest way to open a vacuum sealed jar is to gently tap the top on its edge on any hard surface.

* Awkward Bottles... If you are at home, a rubber glove or bottle gripper will give you the power you need to get into the stickier ones. However, these are usually in short supply at work in the office, so carefully wind a rubber band snugly around the lid and try again... Magic!
