QURAN LESSONS

SURAH NOOH 71: (Prophet Nooh Alaihis Salaam)

This Surah is Makki. It has 28 verses and 2 sections.
With the name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Very- Merciful

"Allah will then forgive your sins and grant you respite until a specified period. Verily, when allah’s specified period arrives, it is not delayed. If only you knew." [4] "He said: O my Rabb! Indeed I called my people day and night." [5] " However my calling only made them run further away." [6]

COMMENTARY: In the previous lesson, we discussed the first three verses of this Surah where Allah Ta’aala sends Nooh Alaihis Salaam down to his people and instructs him to invite his people to the oneness of Allah Ta’aala.

In this weeks lesson, mention is made of Nooh Alaihis Salaam explaining to his people that Allah Ta’aala will forgive sins and grant happiness till death if one brings Imaan in him. Thereafter Nooh Alaihis Salaam gives a report back to Allah Ta’aala regarding his mission stating that only a few accepted his message despite his tireless efforts. He also mentions that the more he called towards the truth, the more the people ran away. It is mentioned that this report was given to Allah about 950 years after he initiated the mission. This is possible understandable seeing that the average age of a person in that era was in the region of 1500 years. Some Ulema use this incident to establish the act of "Kaarkuzari" (report back) that is common in the work of Tabligh.

POEM

Locked up in my Heart!

I always knew I loved you, Mom
From the day that I was born
I just never knew how much
Until after you were gone.

My eyes tear up just thinking
That I never could express
The love for you deep in my heart
And I never will, I guess.

For now you've gone to 'Jannat'
Oh, I hate we had to part.
And all the things I should have said
Are locked up in my heart.

I look for you every day
I listen for your voice
If I could see you just once more
Oh, how I would rejoice!

My lonely soul would sing with joy!
My broken heart would smile!
If ALLAH would send you back to me
For just a little while!

Paradise Is At The Feet Of Mothers

When a man approached the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) asking to take part in a military expedition, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) asked him if he had a Mother. When the man said his Mother was still alive, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said:-

"Stay with her, for Paradise is at her feet."

HEALTH TIP
A natural remedy for coughs is a teaspoon of honey with a pinch of ground black pepper 2-3 times a day. Another formula uses a pinch of ground white pepper instead of black pepper. What is the difference between black and white pepper? A black peppercorn is picked when still green and dried in the sun until it turns black. A white peppercorn ripens fully on the vine before it is picked. Black pepper has a slightly hotter flavor and aroma. If you grind the pepper as you use it, it will have lots more flavor than if it was ground in a factory months ago.
RECIPE
Fish with Thyme & Cheese Sauce

Ingredients
6 pieces of deboned fish
1 ½ cups milk
2 tblsps flour
2 eggs well beaten
1 tsp garlic
1 tsp green chillies
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup grated cheese
1 tblsp fresh thyme

Method
Poach the fish gently for 15 minutes in a pan with enough water to just cover the fish. Drain and place in a baking dish. Mix all the ingredients together and pour over the fish cover and bake at 180 for 30-40 minutes or until the sauce is set. Just before serving sprinkle with a little more grated cheese and place briefly under the grill to form a crisp crust. Serve with brown rice and green beans and wedges of fresh lemon.

THE SMILE

An middle age couple were driving across the country. The man was driving when he got pulled over by a female highway patrol officer. The officer said, "Sir did you know you were speeding?" The man, hard of hearing, turns to his wife and asks, "What did she say?" The woman yells, "She says you were speeding!"

The female officer says, "May I see your license?" The man turns to his wife and asks again, "What did she say?" The woman yells, "She wants to see your license!" The man gave the officer his license.

The patrol lady says, "I see you are from Arkansas. I spent some time there once and was neighbours with the ugliest guy I've ever seen." The man turned to his wife and asked, "What did she say?" And the woman yells...

"She said she knows you!"
