THE FRIDAY SERMON

DEEDS TO BE PERFORMED IN THE MONTH OF THUL – HIJJAH

All praise is due to Allah, who were it not for His compassion we wouldn’t have been guided. We would neither have given charity, nor performed Salaah, nor fasted, nor slaughtered animals in sacrifice if it were not for His grace.

We testify that none is worthy of worship besides Allah alone who has no partner. We testify that our leader and our master, Muhammed Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam is his servant and messenger through whom tranquility has been bestowed upon us. For him we are absolutely prepared to sacrifice our own souls and our families. We would not have known, nor even perceived the truth, were it not for him.

May Allah’s salutations and manifestations be upon him, his family and his companions who witnessed and partook in the battles of Badr and Hunain.

The sanctified month, Zul-Hijjatul-Haraam, has indeed dawned upon us. A number of regulations has been prescribed for us in the stated month. The most important of which is the sacrificial slaughter of certain docile animals.

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam has said: "There is no day which is more beloved to Allah, than Him being worshiped on the 10 days of Zill Hijjah. Each fast of these days is equivalent in reward to the fasting of an entire year and standing in prayer at night is equivalent to the standing in prayer on the night of Qadr (Power or Destiny)." (Tirmizi, Ibn Majah)

Fasting on the days of Arafah has been given special mention...

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam says concerning this fast: "I have hope from Allah that He would (thereby) pardon the (minor) sins of the previous and the following year."

The Takbeer (Expression of the greatness of Allah) has to be also recited for a period of time. The translation of the Takbeer is as follows...

"Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, None is worthy of worship besides Allah, Allah is the Greatest. Allah is the Greatest and to Allah belongs all praise."

Ali Radiyallahu Anhu used to recite the Takbeer after the Fajr Salaah on the day of Arafah to the Asr Salaah of the last day of the days of Tashreeq. The night of Eid has to be also spent in vigil while (the Eid days) would include the performance of an (extra) Salaah and a sermon.

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam has said: "The person who stays awake on the nights of both Eids, his heart will be awake when all other hearts will be dead."

I seek refuge with Allah from Shaytaan, the accursed.

Allah Ta’aala says: "By the oath of the ten nights (of Thul Hijjah), By the oath of the day of animal sacrifice, By the oath of the day of Arafah.”

(Khutbaatul Ahkaam, Pg 106,107)

DUA (PRAYER)

DUAA AT A TIME WHEN RAIN IS SCARCE

When there is a shortage of rain, one should sit as in Salaah and recite the following:

"Yaa Rabbi, Yaa Rabbi, Allahummas qina, Allahummas qina, Allahummas qina, Allahumma Aghithnaa, Allahumma Aghithnaa, Allahumma Aghithnaa"

My Rabb, My Rabb, give us water, give us water, give us water, give us rain, give us rain, give us rain

(Al Hisnul Hasin, Pg 187)

THE SMILE

Phil had just joined a club after his friend had recommended it (being a member for quite some time). They were sitting in a shop sipping on a coffee when someone yelled "21" and there was a small uproar of laughter. A few minutes later someone else yelled "34" and another roar of laughter rose up.

Phil, confused about this asked his friend "Why is everyone laughing at the numbers being called out" His friend said, well we've been telling the same jokes for so many years that we just numbered them all and if you want to tell a joke you just call out a number" Phil nodded and said "Can I try?" His friend nodded and Phil called out "121" and everyone in the club roared with laughter and it didn't die down for at least another 15 minutes after.

"Why did everyone laugh so hard at that joke?" Phil asked. His friend said with a small chuckle...

"We haven't heard that one before."
