Importance of First Ten Days of Zul-Hijjah

The first ten days of Zul Hijjah are among the most magnificent days in the Islamic calendar. The Messenger of Allah, Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam said: "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days." (Bukhari)

Almighty Allah Ta’ala says, “By the dawn; by the ten nights” (Quran-Al-Fajr 89: 1-2).

Ibn `Abbas, ibn az-Zubayr, Mujahid and others of the earlier and later generations are of the opinion that this refers to the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. Ibn Kathir said: "This is the correct opinion." (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 8/413)

The Messenger of Allah, Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam, has said, "One fast during these days is equal to the fasting of one complete year, and the worship of one night during this period is equal to the worship of "Lailatul-Qadr". (Tirmizi)

Every Muslim should avail oneself of this wonderful opportunity by performing as much Ibadah (acts of worship) as he or she can during this period.

THE 9TH DAY OF ZUL HIJJAH

The 9th day of Zul Hijjah is called Yowmul-Arafah (The Day of Arafah). This is the date when the Hujjaj (Haji pilgrims, plural of Haji) assemble on the plain of Arafat, six miles away from Makkah al-Mukkarramah, where they perform the most essential part of the prescribed duties of hajj, namely, making Tawbah (repenting) at the Wuqoof of Arafat.

THE FAST OF YOUMUL ARAFAH

For those not performing hajj, it is Mustahab (desirable) to fast on this day according to their calendar. It sometimes occurs that 9th Zul Hijjah falls on different days in different countries according to the sighting of the moon. In such cases, Muslims of each country should observe Yowmul Arafah according to the lunar dates of their own country.

The fast of Yowmul Arafah has been emphasized by the Messenger of Allah, Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam, as a Mustahab (desirable) act. According to a Hadith, the fast of this day becomes a cause of forgiveness for sins committed in the past and future year. (Hadith-Muslim)

TAKBIR-E-TASHREEQ

Beginning from the Fajr of the 9th Zul Hijjah up to the 'Asr prayer of the 13th, it is obligatory on every Muslim male to recite the Takbir-e-Tashreeq after every Fard Salaah (in congregation or alone) in the following words: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La IlahaIllallahu, Wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar wa lillahilhamd. (There is no god but Allah and Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest and to Allah belongs all praise.) Male Muslims should recite it in a loud voice, while females should recite it in a low voice.

May Allah Ta’aala enable us to use these blessed days in attaining His pleasure.

STORY

A man just got married and was returning home with his wife. They were crossing a lake in a boat, when suddenly a great storm arose. The man was calm but the woman became very afraid. The boat was small and the storm was strong. Any moment they could drown.

But the man remain silent and calm as if nothing was happening. The woman however, was trembling and she said to him, "Are you not afraid? These could be the last moments of our lives! Only some miracle can save us; otherwise death is certain. Are you not afraid? Why won't you speak?

The man laughed and took his sword out of its sheath. The woman was even more puzzled: What was he doing? Then he brought the naked sword close to the woman’s neck, so close that just a small gap remained, it was almost touching her neck. He said to her, "Are you afraid?” She started to laugh and said,” Why should I be afraid, the sword is in your hands, why should I be afraid? I know you love me."

He put the sword back and said, "I know that Allah loves me, and the storm is in His hands so whatever is going to happen would be for the good, I trust Allah. If we survive, good; if we don’t survive, good; because everything is in His hands and He cannot do anything wrong."

Brothers and sisters, the message of this story is clear:

We must put our trust in Allah. We must learn that each one of us is Allah's creation, and Allah loves His creation. We must let go of concerns we stress ourselves with and trust Allah to make our matters good for us. Allah has promised us that He will test us, through loss of income, through death, through loss of the fruits of our labour - but Allah has also said that He will not test us and burden us beyond our capabilities. Allah is Raheem and Allah is Merciful. None other
than Him can take away or provide - so we must take comfort in the knowledge and pledge of Allah.

Today let each one of us speak to Allah - sit somewhere quiet, and feel yourself breathing and your heart beating - for this is a proof that Allah is with you. And speak to Allah by invoking Him by His beautiful names. Plead with Allah. Let Allah know that O my Rabb, I'm counting on you, I'm counting on you for everything, please hear me my Rabb and do onto me that which is good for me and take away from me that which is bad for me. And keep me steadfast on my Deen and help me in the matters of Deen. O Rabb, indeed you are most forgiving and merciful.

THOUGHT

* Proud to be a parent

Dirty dishes prove i feed my child, full bins prove i change my baby's nappy, messy floors prove that i let my kid have fun, piles of washing prove i keep my child in clean clothes, a messy bathroom proves that i bath my child. So next time you walk into my house and see a mess, think twice before you judge.

* When I woke this morning, I asked myself, "What is life all about?"

I found the answer in my room. The fan said, "Be cool." The ceiling said, "Aim high." the window said, "See the world!" The clock said "Every minute is precious." The mirror said, "Reflect before you act." The calendar said, "Be up to date." The door said, " Push hard for your goals." The floor said, "Kneel down and pray"

THE SMILE

A husband read an article to his wife about how many words a woman uses a day! He mocks her and says women only know how to talk and it counts 30 000 words a day! But in the case of a man it’s only 15 000! She very sharply turns and says 'that's because us women have to repeat every darn thing 2 you men'. He says...

'what?'
