HADITH/SAYINGS OF MUHAMMAD
(SALLALLAHU ALAYHI WA SALLAM)

Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu Anhu narrates that Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam addressed us and said: "O people, verily Hajj has been obligatory upon you so perform Hajj." A person from the gathering asked: O messenger of Allah is it obligatory every year? Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Salllam remained silent until the man repeated the question three times. Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam then said: "Had I answered “yes” (to that question) Hajj would have been made compulsory (every year) and you do not have the ability to do that." Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam then said: "Accept that which I say (Don’t ask too much questions) for verily nations before you were destroyed due to abundant questions and opposing the prophets. When I instruct you to do a ceretain action then fulfill it to the best of your ability and when I prevent you from any action then abstain from it." (Muslim)

* A person: Ulema mention that this was Aqra Bin Haabis Radiyallahu Anhu. We can also see from here, the thirst for knowledge that Sahaaba Radiyaalahu Anhum possessed.

* Remained silent: Some scholars mention that the silence was to give the impression that such questions should never be asked. Some scholars are of the opinion that the silence was due to Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam waiting for revelation.

* Three times: The reason why the question was asked three times is because the Sahaabi Radiyallahu Anhu thought that maybe Hajj is like other Ibaadaat that has to be done continuously.

Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu Anhu narrates that Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam was asked which action is the most virtuous. Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said: "To bring Imaan in Allah and His Messenger." He was then asked: And then? Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said: "Jihaad in the path of Allah." He was then asked: And then? Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said: "A Hajj Mabroor." (Bukhaari, Muslim)

* Hajj Mabroor: Many scholars have their opinions of exactly what is meant by Hajj Mabroor. Hereunder are a few opinions…

* A Hajj free from sin.
* A Hajj done only for Allah’s pleasure.
* A Hajj after which, one has inclination towards Aakhirat and is not interested in the material things of this world. (Hasan Basri Rahimahullah)
* A Hajj after which, ones Ibaadat and Taqwa has increased.
* A Hajj performed with all its actions correctly. i.e Tawaaf, Pelting etc.

ADVICE

Visiting people before Hajj/ Umrah

It is usual to meet relatives and associates before departing for Hajj or Umrah. The objective of such meetings should be to seek forgiveness from each other for any shortcomings in fulfilling each other’s rights. It should be noted however, that just saying, “Please forgive me if I have done anything to hurt you,” is not sufficient; in order to make up for past mistakes genuine forgiveness needs to be sought.

Nowadays, the trend is to only visit those with whom we are on good terms, whereas it is more important to visit those with whom we are not on good terms, so that we can seek forgiveness and be truly forgiven by them.

Mix the crumbs together with the spices in a bowl. Dip the chicken chunks in the beaten egg then roll in the breadcrumbs coating well. (now suitable for freezing). Place the chicken pieces in a greased oven proof dish or baking try. Top with knobs of butter and bake in a moderate oven for half an hour or until golden brown.

HEALTH TIP

Cook with olive oil, add it to salads, and dip bread in it. Those who do are 41 per cent less likely to suffer a stroke than those who never eat it. Researchers using almost 8,000 people have concluded that all older people will live a healthier life if they eat plenty of it.

The Mediterranean Diet, one of the healthiest out there, relies heavily on olive oil and is regarded as the classic eating habit in countries such as France, Greece, Spain and Italy. Cecilia Samieri, of the National Institute of Health and Medical Research in Bordeaux, where the survey was done, said: "Stroke is so common in older people and olive oil would be an inexpensive and easy way to help prevent it. Besides the health benefits that olive oil provides, it tastes good too.
