STORY

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for Allah to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. He nevertheless remained hopeful of Allah's help and continued his sincere praying every day punctually.

He eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements[wind, rain etc] and to store his few possessions. But then one day, after searching for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, the smoke rolling up to the sky. The "worst" had happened; everything was lost he pondered. He was stunned with grief. "Allah, how could this happen to me!" he cried. Early the next day, just before Fajr Salaah (early morning prayer) he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him. "Alhamdulillah" [All praise is to Allah], he exclaimed with intense joy. "How did you know I was here?" the man asked the sailors on the ship. "We saw your smoke signal," they replied.

It is easy to get discouraged when things are going badly. But we shouldn't lose heart, because Allah is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain and suffering. Remember, next time your little hut is burning to the ground-it just may be a smoke signal that summons The Grace and Help of Allah the Greatest!

Allah Ta'aala the Almighty says in the Quran:

"And in Allah (Alone) let the believers, put their trust.'' (14:11)

"And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him". (65:3)

Battle of Badr, Friday morning the 17th of Ramadan

Habban ibn Wasi ibn Habban Radiyallahu Anhu told me on the Authority of some elders of his tribe that on the day of Badr, Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam adressed the ranks of his companions wth an arrow which he held in his hand. As he passed by Sawad ibn Ghaziya Radiyallahu Anhu, an ally of Ibn'Adiy ibn al-Najjar Radiyallahu Anhu, who was Mustansil (standing out of line) he pricked him in his belly with the arrow, saying, "Stand in line, O Sawad!"

"You have hurt me, O apostle of Allah," he cried, "and Allah has sent you with right and justice so let me retaliate." Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam uncovered his belly and said "Take your retaliation."

Sawad Radiyallahu Anhu embraced him and kissed his belly. He asked what had made him do this and he replied, "O apostle of Allah, you see what is before us and I may not survive the battle and as this is my last time with you I want my skin to touch yours". Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam blessed him.

Lessons to be learnt:

* Humility of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam : He did not tell other soldiers to take him away and get tortured for what he said like leaders of our times would.
* Justice of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam when he allowed the companion to retaliate.
* The love the Sahaba Radiyallahu Anhum had for Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam.

THOUGHT

* Heavy rains remind us of challenges in life. Never ask for lighter rain. Just pray for a better umbrella. That is attitude.

* When flood comes, fish eat ants & when flood recedes, ants eat fish. Only time matters. Just hold on, God gives an opportunity to everyone!

* Some people always throw stones in your path. It depends on you what you make with them. Wall or Bridge? Remember you are the architect of your life.
