THE MESSAGE

Ever since the expose of the MJC it seems to be a hot topic of discussion in most social circles However, an Aalim mentions…

As important as it is for the public to be kept well informed regarding the MJC’s process of Halaal certification, it is equally, if not more important to ensure that one earns a Halaal livelihood which unfortunately and sadly is not given the due importance it deserves.

How many of us can guarantee that we are earning a Halaal livelihood. Many of us can claim to do so, but after serious introspection, the question remains…are our earnings really Halaal?

In the light of the Quraan and Hadeeth, certain people who seemingly earn a Halaal livelihood in reality actually don’t…among them are…

A trader who trades dishonestly, dodgy dealings have become a the norm of the day…don’t we all have contacts in the right places!

A trader who sells his merchandise on false promise or pretense, using lies to boost the sale of an item shouldn’t hurt the customer too much!

Lastly, something that most of us are guilty of yet we seldom realize it…using working hours to fulfill our own personal needs…this amounts to indirectly stealing from your employer.

Remember, one of the reasons why our Duas are not accepted is due to our earnings not being Halaal. May Allah save us and grant us the ability to lead more honest and fulfilling lives, Ameen.

CHARITY

Q. What is the difference between Zakaat, Sadaqa amd Lillah?
A. Sadaqa and Lillah is one and the same thing. Both is an optional act while Zakaat is a compulsory act.

Q. Explain what exactly is Sadaqa/Lillah? (From hereon both will be regarded as Sadaqa)
A. Sadaqa is an optional act of charity which can be given at any time, to Muslim or non Muslim. It can be given in the form of clothes, food, money etc. The concept of Sadaqa is so vast that Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam has said that even a smile will be regarded as Sadaqa.

Q. What intention can a person make when giving Sadaqa?
A. A person should give his charity (whether Zakaat or Sadaqa) only for the pleasure of Allah Ta'aala. A person can give his Sadaqa (not Zakaat) on behalf of another person. A Dua can also be made e.g. "O Allah grant my mother Shifaa (cure) through the blessings (Barakat) of this act of charity."

Q. Will putting money in the collection tins or giving a few coins to the beggars also be regarded as Sadaqa?
A. Yes, every act of charity whether big or small will fall under Sadaqa.

Q. What is the benefits of Sadaqa?
A. Most importantly it will be a means of gaining the pleasure of Allah Ta'aala. Charity will also attract the mercy of Allah Ta'aala, buy the giver abundant rewards and can also be a means of saving one from a future calamity.

Q. If a person decides to give charity (Zakaat or Sadaqa), who should he look to first?
A. A person should first look towards his family whether immediate or far. If there is any family member worthy of Zakaat or Sadaqa then it is better to give it to them. Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam has said that charity to family members holds two rewards i.e. the reward of charity and the reward of keeping family ties.

HANDY HINT
* If you keep sweets like jellybeans (Halaal) in the cupboard, you can use them if your child bites their lip or has a vang on the mouth that bleeds. The sweet creates extra saliva and quickly helps the bleeding to stop.

* To prolong the life of cut flowers, split the stems before placing in water. Don't put too many in one vase, they'll last longer if given space.

THE SMILE

A customer sent an order to a distributor for a large amount of goods totaling a great deal of money. The distributor noticed that the previous bill hadn’t been paid, so he asked his collections manager to leave a voice-mail for them saying, “We can’t ship your new order until you pay for the last one.” The next day the collections manager received a collect phone call...

“Please cancel the order. We can’t wait that long.”
