AL-FURQAAN, the Criterion

One of the secrets of success in life as well as the secret of happiness is to be clear about the foundational questions. Once we are clear about them, then we don’t have to keep wrestling with them over and over again at every decision point. So what are these foundational questions that we Muslims must be clear about?

1. Am I going to die one day?
2. Am I going to be judged by my criteria or by Allah's criteria when I stand before Him on the Day of Judgment?
3. Will all my pathetic little clever arguments work for me on that day?

Allah says that He sent us for a purpose. He described himself as the True King:

Al Mu’minoon 23:115. "Did you think that We had created you in play (without any purpose), and that you would not be brought back to Us?" 116. So Exalted be Allâh, the True King, Lâ ilâha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Lord of the Supreme Throne!
And Allah said about us and His reason for sending us into this world:

Al Baqara 2: 30. And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "Verily, I am going to place on earth (mankind) a vicegerent (who will inherit the earth, generation after generation).

So when we have been sent for a purpose then it is both a logical conclusion as well as our Imaan that we will be questioned about that purpose and will be judged in accordance with how well we fulfilled it.

We know from this that Allah has sent us as vicegerents and not as kings to do as we please. Let us see what the essential difference is between a king and a vicegerent or viceroy.

King:
1. Makes the law
2. Good = Whatever pleases him
3. Is not answerable to anyone

Viceroy:
1. Obeys and implements the law
2. Good = Whatever pleases the king
3. Is answerable to the king

As mentioned above these are the three critical differences between the King and His Viceroy. To live on the earth as if we were kings, do as we please without a care about whether or not that pleases Allah and as if we will never have to die and stand before Him, is to deny the Ayaat of Qur’an by our actions and to display ignorance and stupidity of a very rare and high order. Anyone with any intelligence and common sense, who believes in Allah and the Last Day will wake up and take account of his life to see what his situation is likely to be when he will be questioned about how he led his life and whether he fulfilled the purpose for which he had been sent.

Chicken filling for springrolls

Ingredients
500g chicken fillets cubed
1 medium size onion
1 tsp ginger /garlic masala
Salt to taste
1 tsp whole jeera
¼ tsp turmeric
1 tsp crushed dhania
Some lemon juice
2 cubed potatoes that has been either boiled or fried
1 cup grated cheese
1 cup boiled mixed vegetables
Chopped greens – dhania and spring onions

Method
Braise chopped onion in butter, and add 1 tsp jeera. Add chicken fillets with all other ingredients except potatoes, cheese and mix vegetables. Cook until done.
When cold add in potatoes, mix vegetables and cheese. If you wish you could also add in some boiled spaghetti and a dash. of soy sauce. Garnish with chopped greens.

A mechanic was removing a cylinder head from the motor of a motorcycle when he spotted a well-known heart surgeon in his shop. The surgeon was there waiting for the service manager to come take a look at his bike.

The mechanic shouted across the garage, "Hey Doc can I ask you a question?"

The surgeon, a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic working on the motorcycle.

The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, "So Doc, look at this engine. I open its heart, take valves out, fix'em, put 'em back in, and when I finish, it works just like new. So how come I get such a small salary and you get the really big bucks, when you and I are doing basically the same work?

The surgeon paused, smiled and leaned over, whispering to the mechanic… "Try doing it with the engine running!"
