Surah At-Talaq (The Divorce)
This Surah was revealed in Madinah, and it has 12 verses and 2 sections

In the Name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Most Merciful

"And whoever fears Allah, for him Allah brings forth a way out, and gives him provision (of his needs from where he does not even imagine... 2/3)."

COMMENTARY: The Cause of Revelation of the Above Verse - Sayyidna Abdullah Ibn Abbas RA reports that 'Auf Ibn Malik Ashja'i came up to the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam and said that the enemies had arrested and kidnapped his son Salim. His mother is very anxious and he wanted to know what he should do. The Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam ordered him and his wife to recite Laa Howla Wa Laa Quwwata Illaa Billah (There is no strength nor power but with Allah) abundantly. The husband and wife complied with the order. They recited the formula abundantly. It produced its desired effect.

One day the enemies became unmindful, and the boy somehow managed to escape and drove a herd of goats that belonged to them to his father. According to other narratives, he found one of their camels and he mounted it and drove the other camels to his father. The father reported the incident to the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam.

Another narration has it that he enquired from the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam whether the goats and camels the son brought with him were lawful for them. On that occasion, the verse (And whoever fears Allah, for him Allah brings forth a way out, and gives him provision from where he does not even imagine...2/3)

According to other versions of the report, when Sayyidna Auf Ibn Malik Ashja'i RA and his wife became very restless and anxious because of separation from the son, the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam advised them to exercise Taqwa and recite abundantly Laa Howla Wa Laa Quwwata Illaa Billah (There is no strength nor power but with Allah). [All these narratives are cited in Ruhul-Ma'aani from Ibn Marduyah through the chain of al-Kalbi from Abu Saleh from Ibn Abbas RA.

This occasion of revelation indicates that this verse, though related to a divorcing situation in this context, has a general application for all circumstances.

Trust combined with respect,

Life's biggest tragedy is having a status equivalent to a king, but a heart of a disrespectful pauper for respect is life's greatest earn.

Pride and arrogance does not please,

for SOMEONE is watching in silent observation, perhaps disgusted.

Turn to forgiveness and in return you shall receive humility, for respect is life's greatest earn.

Many a men fell,

Many a men slipped on the ladder to success,

avoid following their foot steps

use another ladder where each rung is laced with respect, humility, love and trust, for respect is life's greatest earn.

When the world cease to exist,

And you stand before your silent observator....

Your Creator, Your ALLAH,

Remember that respect will be your greatest life's earn!

SAVOURY RICE

Ingredients

30ml Sunflower oil
30ml Butter
1 Large onion thinly sliced
1 green pepper seeded and chopped
1 tomato chopped
5ml chilli powder or crushed dried red chillies
10ml methi masala
5ml salt
500ml frozen mixed vegetables 500ml long grain rice
60ml butter

Method

1. Heat oil and 30ml butter in a large saucepan and braise onions until golden.
2. Reserve a third of the onions for garnishing
3. Add green peppers and tomato to the saucepan with chilli powder methi masala and salt and
simmer for 15 mins
4. Add frozen veggies and simmer for 10 mins
5. Meanwhile parboil rice for 15 mins in lightly salted water
6. Rinse drain and add to saucepan with veggies.
7. Dot with 60ml butter and add reserved braised onion
8. Steam covered over medium heat for 15 mins

CALLING IN SICK

When Jim walked into the office, he knew something was up.

There was a message on his desk that the boss wanted to see him as soon as he arrived. The boss didn't look very happy when Jim reported to his office. The older man didn't say anything, he just pointed at the newspaper on his desk. It was opened to the sports page, and there was a picture of a smiling Jim, holding up the trophy for winning the local golf tournament the day before.

"I just checked. You called in sick yesterday!" the boss said. "What if everybody just claimed to be sick and took off whenever they wanted to? What do you have to say for yourself?"

There was a moment of silence in the big corner office, until Jim finally spoke up, "I was really surprised to win the tournament, sir. I have never played that well. Think of the score I could have had if I hadn't been sick!"
