Surah Ar-Rahman (The All-Merciful)

This Surah is Madani, and it has 78 verses and 3 sections

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Most-Merciful

"And the earth is placed by Him for the creatures..." 55:10
"in which there are fruits and the date-palms having sheaths..." 55:11
"and the grain having chaff, .... 55:12

COMMENTARY: ( ..."in which there are fruits..." 55:11). The word 'Faakihah' refers to fruits that are normally eaten after food for pleasure.

( ..."and the date-palms having sheaths"... 55:11). The word 'Akmaam' is the plural of 'Kimm', and refers to 'the cover that surrounds and protects dates and other fruits in the beginning'.

( ..."and the grain having chaff, .... 55:12). The word 'Habb' means grain, as for instance 'wheat', 'gram', 'rice', 'a kind of vetch', 'lentil' and so on. The word 'asf' is the outer cover of some type of grains, like rice or wheat husk, which Allah creates with His power and consummate wisdom. Man's attention is drawn to the fact that each grain of the food he eats several times a day has been created by Allah, out of His unbounded grace and beneficence, from soil and water in inconceivably wonderful ways. He protected every grain against insects with the outer cover until maturity, so that it was prepared as a morsel of food. The current verse, thus, briefly points to all those natural things that are so essential for the physical development of man.

The mention of 'asf' [husk] is to remind that it is the fodder for your animals. This is another bounty of Allah because man needs the milk of the animals for nourishment. Furthermore, animals are used as a means of transportation to convey human beings from place to place as well as to carry loads, cargo and luggage.

CHOCOLATE CREAM AND MINT SWISS ROLL

Ingredients
4 extra large eggs, separated. 125 ml castor sugar (105 g). 60 ml Snowflake self-raising flour (35 g). 60 ml cocoa powder (25 g). Castor sugar for rolling.

Method
Beat egg yolks and castor sugar until light and pale. Sift flour and cocoa powder and add to egg mixture, beating well. Beat egg whites until soft-peak stage and fold in with a metal spoon. Spread in a lined and greased 23 cm x 32 cm Swiss roll tin. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for 10 12 minutes. Remove from oven and leave to cool slightly. Turn out onto a clean, dry tea towel sprinkled well with castor sugar. Trim edges to ensure rolling without breaking. Remove paper carefully and roll it up with the sugared cloth. Leave it for about 5 minutes, then unroll and leave it to cool further.

For filling
Beat cream and sugar until thickened. Spread over the Swiss roll and sprinkle peppermint crisp over it. Roll up.

MAKING FRIENDS OUTSIDE FACEBOOK

I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook while applying the same principles. Therefore, every day I walk down the street and tell passersby what I have eaten, how I feel at the moment, what I have done the night before, what I will do later, and with whom.

I give them pictures of my family, my dog, and of me gardening, taking things apart in the garage, watering the lawn, standing in front of landmarks, driving around town, having lunch, and doing what anybody and everybody does every day.

I also listen to their conversations, give them the "thumbs up" and tell them I like them.

And it works just like Facebook! I already have four people following me: two police officers, a private investigator, and a psychiatrist.
