THE MESSAGE
SPECIAL FOCUS – RABIUL AWWAL
Sermon of the Farewell Pilgrimage
-----------------------------------------
A sermon that was simple to understand, Non-‘philosophical’; Non-‘intellectual’, and Non-‘political’.

It was the time when the whole of Arabia had become the land of Islam. The Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam intended to perform the Hajj (pilgrimage). He announced his intention to the Muslims in Madinah and the surrounding areas and asked them to join him. This was in fact the only hajj performed by him during his life time.

On this occasion he made sure to those who were present with him and to the whole world about the hajj and the divine message brought by him from Allah to all human kind.

At the last farewell, big gathering with the Ummah during the Hajj season, the Hajjat Al-Wada (Farewell sermon) delivered by the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam at the valley of Arafat about 81 or 82 days before his death, contained the very fundamental aspect of Islam. Riding his camel he spoke with a clear tone and asked who heard his speech to convey it to those who were not present there. Among others he said:

“O People! Lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether, after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.”

“0 People! Just as you regard this month (HAJ), this day, this city as sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that He will indeed reckon your deeds. Allah has forbidden you to take usury.”

“Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hopes that he will be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.”

“0 People! it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. If they abide by your rights, then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well - and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with anyone of whom you do not approve, as well as never to commit adultery.”

“0 People! Listen to me in earnest, worship Allah, say your five daily prayers, fast during the month of Ramadhaan, and give your wealth in Zakah: Perform hajj if you can afford to. You know that every Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. You are all equal. Nobody has superiority over the other except by piety and good action.”

“Remember, one day you will appear before Allah and answer for your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after my death.”

“0 People! No prophet or apostle will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well, and understand my words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the Qur'an and my example, the Sunnah. And if you follow these you will never go astray.”

“All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness of Allah, that I have conveyed your message to your people."

The importance of this sermon can be seen from the Prophet's prediction that this occasion may be the last one during his life time. He felt that this was the right time to summarize the principles of Islam to his fellow brothers and sisters.

By perfection of this religion, it means that there is no need for humanity at large and for the Muslims in particular to look for other alternative ways of life. As long as one holds fast to the two things left behind by the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam (the Quran, and the Sunnah), he will never go astray.

DUA/PRAYER
To say ‘Bismillah' in the name of Allah when taking off one's clothes.

BENEFIT: Bismillah causes a veil between the eyes of the jinn and Shaytaan and humans. (Will not be able to see one naked)

THE STORY
Amazing Story!! And a True one! Judging people by appearance!
A TRUE STORY by Malcolm Forbes

-------------------------------------

A lady in a faded gingham dress and her husband, dressed in a homespun threadbare suit, stepped off the train in Boston, and walked timidly without an appointment into the Harvard University President's outer office.

The secretary could tell in a moment that such backwoods, country hicks had no business at Harvard and probably didn't even deserve to be in Cambridge.
"We'd like to see the president," the man said softly.
"He'll be busy all day," the secretary snapped.
"We'll wait," the lady replied.

For hours the secretary ignored them, hoping that the couple would finally become discouraged and go away. They didn't, and the secretary grew frustrated and finally decided to disturb the president, even though it was a chore she always regretted. "Maybe if you see them for a few minutes, they'll leave," she said to him!

He sighed in exasperation and nodded. Someone of his importance obviously didn't have the time to spend with them, and he detested gingham dresses and homespun suits cluttering up his outer office. The president, stern faced and with dignity, strutted toward the couple.
The lady told him, "We had a son who attended Harvard for one year. He loved Harvard. He was happy here. But about a year ago, he was accidentally killed. My husband and I would like to erect a memorial to
him, somewhere on campus."

The president wasn't touched. He was shocked. "Madam," he said, gruffly, "we can't put up a statue for every person who attended Harvard and died.. If we did, this place would look like a cemetery."

"Oh, no," the lady explained quickly. "We don't want to erect a statue. We thought we would like to give a building to Harvard." The president rolled his eyes. He glanced at the gingham dress and homespun suit, and then exclaimed, "A building! Do you have any earthly idea how much a building costs? We have over seven and a half million dollars in the physical buildings here at Harvard."

For a moment the lady was silent. The president was pleased. Maybe he could get rid of them now. The lady turned to her husband and said quietly, "Is that all it costs to start a university? Why don't we just start our own?" Her husband nodded. The president's face wilted in confusion and bewilderment. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Stanford got up and walked away, traveling to Palo Alto, California where they established the university that bears their name, Stanford University, a memorial to a son that Harvard no longer cared about.

You can easily judge the character of others by how they treat those who they think can do nothing for them.

POEM
By Fatima Harif

The Amazon rainforest is a beautiful sight,
With trees, plants and fireflies at night.
The Amazon rainforest homes many creatures,
Along with its beauty it contains many features.

From insects, to animals, plants and trees,
Slithering snakes and buzzing bees.
The canopy, the under layer and the forest floor,
Protects the plants, encouraging growth more.

Deep in the forest where the forest floor lies,
Sunlight cannot enter, although it tries.
In the rainforest, the tribes were many,
Now they are few, if any.

The tribes of the forest suffer due to western greed,
As they need the forest to fulfill their own needs.
While space is made for herds of cows to graze,
The millions of trees are set ablaze.

The pollution it causes destroys the ozone layer,
Nobody cares, not even the mayor!
As the forest is exploited for timber and wood,
It causes more harm to the people then good.

The lungs of the earth are disappearing,
Due to peoples selfishness and lack of caring.
So come on everyone, let’s get together,
And do what we can to make the rainforest better!

RECIPE
POTATO CAKE
Ingredients

3 cups mashed potatoes - 1 ½ cups sugar - 1 cup flour - 3 eggs - 3 tsp baking powder - 1 cup ghee – Elachie – Coconut.

Method
Beat ghee and sugar. Add rest of ingredients. Put mixture into pyrex dish. Bake at 180c for 1 hour or until golden brown.

COOKING TIP
Always keep slit or chopped branjil (egg plant) in salted water, till required. Remove and use as per recipe, when required. This will keep them from turning black, which happens when they are kept otherwise, in a matter of minutes.

A THOUGHT
The mirror keeps secrets. Once you move away from it, your image is gone with you. It will not display your image to the next person that comes along. No matter how much time you spent in front of it, and how many secrets you told it. It shall bury your secrets in itself, and never tell others.

THE SMILE
The Perfect Husband?

Several men are in the locker room of a golf club. A cell phone on a bench rings and a man engages the hands-free speaker function and begins to talk. Everyone else in the room stops to listen.

MAN: "Hello"
WOMAN: "Honey, it's me. Are you at the club?"
MAN: "Yes"
WOMAN: "I'm at the mall now and found this beautiful leather coat. It's only $1,000. Is it OK if I buy it?"
MAN: "Sure, go ahead if you like it that much."
WOMAN: "I also stopped by the Mercedes dealership and saw the new 2007 models. I saw one I really liked."
MAN: "How much?"
WOMAN: "$80,000."
MAN: "OK, but for that price I want it with all the options."
WOMAN: "Great! Oh, and one more thing. The house we wanted last year is back on the market. They're asking $950,000."
MAN: "Well, then go ahead and give them an offer, but just offer $900,000."
WOMAN: "OK. I'll see you later! I love you!"
MAN: "Bye, I love you, too."

The man hangs up. The other men in the locker room are looking at him in astonishment. Then he smiles and asks: "Anyone knows whose phone this is?"
