HADITH, SAYINGS/TRADITIONS OF MUHAMMAD SAW
Abu Shuraih Khuwailid bin Amr Al-Khuza`i RA reported: The Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said, "O Allah, I declare inviolable the rights of two weak ones: the orphans and women". [An-Nasa'i]

Commentary: The poor are generally treated callously in human society. Women and orphans are regular victims of this cruelty. They are deprived of their share in property to which they are entitled under the Islamic law. In some cases their properties are usurped and they are maltreated at the hands of usurpers. The Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam has threatened with serious consequences to prevent Muslims from committing such injustice. The attitude of Muslims and the teachings of Islam in this matter are two different things. How can Islam be blamed for the attitude of Muslims? It is time Muslims should understand that Islam is getting a bad name because of their bad conduct. As a result of this they are committing a double crime. On the one hand, they are guilty of usurping others of their legitimate rights and perpetrating cruelties, and on the other, disgracing their religion. In other words, rather than preaching Islam they are creating obstacles in the way of people joining the fold of Islam. May Allah grant us guidance to follow the right path. Amen!

THE MESSAGE
Short-Lived – Romance
--------------------------

Today many couples go through the western un-Islamic concept of a premarital courtship. They regard this Haraam association as an essential trial period for a lasting relationship. However, reality seems to indicate otherwise. Neither courtship nor romance is a guaranteed for a lasting happy married life. In fact, it would be true to say that many couples exchange marriage vows while they are deeply infatuated. Not long after, they are divorced. Short-term whirlwind romances also offer no guarantee for a happy ending. In short, premarital relationship removes the joy and ecstasy from the nuptial bed.

Divorces becoming common
Broken marriages and divorces in Muslim homes are as common as the housefly. There is trauma and grief in almost every family. The children beat the brunt of the agony. The parents and grandparents too become submerged in the depths of sorrow. The estranged mother suffers from a lack of financial means to support her or the children if they are in her custody. The father, usually frolicking somewhere else, fails to provide the adequate maintenance. The parents and the family of the daughter grieve over her hardship. In other cases, they are stricken with worry over the divorced daughter. Looking after her is just as difficult as looking after a teenage daughter.

The causes of divorce are many, beginning with a loss of chastity due to a history of past affairs of either spouse, of infidelity, alcoholism, drugs and interference by the in-laws. The only solution lies in adopting the laws of Deen in totality. A lasting marriage requires faithfulness from both partners and adherence to the injunctions of Allah Ta’aala.

PERSONALITY
Abu Musa Al-Ashari RA

When he went to Basra as governor of the city, he called the inhabitants to a meeting and addressed them: "The Amir al-Muminin, Umar, has sent me to you to teach you the Book of your Lord and the Sunnah of His Prophet and to clean your streets for you."

People were taken aback when they heard these words. They could easily understand that one of the responsibilities of a Muslim ruler was to instruct people in their religion. However, that one of his duties should be to clean streets was something new and surprising to them.

Who was this governor of whom the Prophet's grandson, al-Hasan RA: "There was no rider who came to Basra who was better for its people than he."

His real name was Abdullah ibn Qays but he was and continues to be known as Abu Musa al-Ashari. He left his native land, the Yemen, for Makkah immediately after hearing that a Prophet had appeared there who was a man of rare insight, who called people to the worship of One God and who insisted on the highest standards of morality.

At Makkah, he stayed in the company of the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam and gained knowledge and guidance. He returned to his country to propagate the word of Allah and spread the mission of the noble Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam. Just after the end of the Khaibar expedition he came to the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam in Madinah. His arrival there coincided with that of Jaffar ibn Abi Talib and other Muslims from Abyssinia and the Prophet welcomed them all with joy and happiness.

This time Abu Musa did not come alone. He came with more than fifty persons from the Yemen all of whom had accepted Islam. Among them were his two brothers, Abu Ruhm and Abu Burdah. The Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam often praised the group for their soft and tender-hearted nature and held them up to the rest of his companions as a high example of good behaviour.

Abu Musa soon became highly esteemed in the Muslim community. He had many great qualities. He was a Faqih endowed with intelligence and sound judgement and was ranked as one of the leading judges in the early Muslim community. People used to say: "The judges in this Ummah are four: Umar, Ali, Abu Musa and Zayd ibn Thabit."

Abu Musa had a natural, uncomplicated disposition. He was by nature a trusting person and expected people to deal with him on the basis of trust and sincerity. In the field of jihad, he was a warrior of great courage and endurance and skill. The Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said of him: "The master of horsemen is Abu Musa."

"Abu Musa's insight and the soundness of his judgment did not allow him to be deceived by an enemy in battle. In battle conditions he saw situations with complete clarity and executed his actions with a firm resolve.

In spite of the fact that Abu Musa was a strong and powerful warrior, he often left the battlefield transformed into a penitent, weeping person. At such times, he would read the Quran in a voice that profoundly stirred the souls of all who listened to him. Concerning his moving and melodious recitation of the Quran the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, had said: "Abu Musa has indeed been given one of the flutes of the people of David."

SPICE RICE

1 Cup Tastic rice – boiled with salt and a pinch of Arad.
Make vagaar with 1 onion till pink and add 2/3 tblsp garlic and braise for a while.
In a separate dish, cube 1 green pepper, 1 carrot, mushrooms, corn, peas etc.

HANDY HINT
Got plant lice (aphids)? You can control them with a strong blast of water from the hose or with insecticidal soap. But here's another suggestion, one that's a lot more fun--get some tape! Wrap a wide strip of tape around your hand, sticky side out, and pat the leaves of plants infested with aphids. Concentrate on the undersides of leaves, because that's where the little buggers like to hide.

A THOUGHT
Cloud and wind, moon and sun move in the sky. That you may gain bread, and not eat it unconcerned. For you all are revolving and obedient. It is against the requirements of justice that you disobey Him.

THE SMILE
An old man goes to his doctor, complaining about a pain in his left leg that doesn't heal and wants a diagnosis and explanation. The doctor checks out his leg, but can't find anything wrong. So he gives the old guy a full physical exam, and still can't come up with any possible explanation for the pain.
The doctor hands the patient his bill and says, "I'm sorry, but the pain in your leg is simply caused by old age, there's nothing I can do about it."
The old man replies with a look of disbelief, "That's impossible! It is illogical! That just can't be!"
The doctor says, "What do you mean? I'm the expert here; if you know so much, how can you say it's NOT old age?"
The patient answers, "I'm no doctor, but it doesn't take a medical degree to tell that your diagnosis is wrong. Clearly you're mistaken. After all, my right leg feels just fine."
"So what?" says the doctor in a bit of a professional huff, "What difference does that make?"
"Well the right one doesn't hurt a bit, and it's exactly the SAME AGE!"
