THE STORY

THE MASTER PIECE
------------------
A master calligrapher was writing some characters onto a piece of paper. One of his especially perceptive students was watching him. When the calligrapher was finished, he asked for the student's opinion - who immediately told him that it wasn't any good. The master tried again, but the student criticized the work again. Over and over, the calligrapher carefully redrew the same characters, and each time the student rejected it. Finally, when the student had turned his attention away to something else and wasn't watching, the master seized the opportunity to quickly dash off the characters. "There! How's that?," he asked the student. The student turned to look. "NOW THAT.... is a masterpiece!" he exclaimed.

MORAL: It is not how perfect you do something that is important, but how others perceive it. Spontaneity is beautiful, not carefully planned out and conforming work. Trying hard at something can lead to poor results. Let it come naturally.

HEALTH TIPs

If possible, in winter one should eat foods and medicines that give strength so that one may be saved from many sicknesses throughout the year. Such foods include: half-boiled eggs and gâjar halwa (a sweetmeat made with carrots). A half-boiled egg is prepared in the following manner: wrap the egg in a thin cloth and dip it 100 times in boiling water.

Alternatively, place it in boiling water for three minutes. Thereafter, place it in cold water for three minutes. Only the yolk of the egg should be eaten. Egg-white does not have much nutritional value.

A THOUGHT

SILENCE
--------
While a man says not a word
His fault and virtue are concealed.
Think not that every desert is empty.
Possibly it may contain a sleeping tiger.

~ SADI ~

THE SMILE

TRIVIAL
--------
A duck walks into a general store and asks the manager, “Got any fresh fruit?"
"No."
"Got any fresh vegetables?"
"No. We have only canned and dry goods."
The next day, the duck returns.
"Got any fresh fruit?"
"No."
"Got any fresh vegetables?"
"No. I told you yesterday, we have only canned and dry goods. If you come back tomorrow and ask me the same question, I'll nail your flippers to the floor."
On the 3rd day, the duck walks in and asks, "Got any nails?"
"No."
"Got any fresh fruit?"
