THE FRIDAY KHUTBAH (SERMON)
PATIENCE THROUGH DECREES
By Sh Abdul-Muhsin Al Qaasim - Imam Madina Munawwarah

All praise is due to Allaah, may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger, his household and companions.

Fellow Muslims! Fear Allaah as he should be feared, for fear of Allaah brings more blessings and prevents afflictions.

Dear Muslims! Allaah has foreordained the fate of all creatures, written down their impacts and deeds, portioned out between them their livelihood and wealth and created death and life that He may test them which of them is best in deed. Indeed, belief in Allaah's decree and preordainment is one of the pillars of faith. Nothing happens in this universe except by His will.

This life is full of misfortune and sorrow. It is destined to be a place of hardships and trouble. Trials and tribulations are as inevitable in this life as cold and heat. Allaah says, “And certainly We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to those who are patient.” (Al Baqarah: 155)

Pre-destination is a test by which the truthful ones are distinguished from untruthful ones. Allaah says, “Do people think that they will be left alone because they say, 'We believe,' and will not be tested.” (Al ‘Ankaboot: 2). read more

The Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever enters the marketplace and says:

Lã 'ilãha 'illã 'allãhu wahdahu lã shareeka lahu, lahul mulku, wa lahul hamdu, yuhyee wa yumeetu, wa huwa hayyun lã yamootu, biyadihil khayru, wa huwa 'alã kulli shay'in qadeerun.'

There is no 'ilãh except Allah, no partner does He have; his is the Kingdom, and to Him is all Praise; He livens, and mortifies; and He is alive; never to die. In his Hand is all good, and He is well able to do everything.

Allah would write for him one thousand merits, would remit from him one thousand sins, and would raise for him [his status] one thousand levels".

NEWS
Britain's most senior police officer has resigned after criticism of his leadership and his handling of major investigations including terrorism cases. Ian Blair, commissioner of the London Metropolitan Police, said he was stepping down 16 months before his five-year contract was due to expire. Blair has been embroiled in a high-profile row with the force's most senior Muslim officer, Tarique Ghaffur, the assistant commissioner, who has accused him of racial discrimination.

The US vice-presidential candidates have clashed on foreign policy, the economy and energy in their only face-to-face debate of the US election campaign. Sarah Palin, the Republican governor of Alaska, met Joe Biden, the experienced Democrat senator from Delaware, for the televised showdown in the city of St Louis, Missouri. The early exchanges between the two were dominated by the recent global turmoil on the financial markets. But, as expected by Muslims around the world, both the candidates pledged their loyalty to apartheid Israel.

It is comrade versus comrade as the ANC’s dirty laundry gets aired in open letters. Former defence minister left no stones unturned as he lambasted the ruling party and its code of ethics. Mosiuoa Lekota has no given the clearest hint yet that he will divorce the ANC, an organisation which he says he no longer recognises and whose practices he believes has become dangerous to democracy.

Parliament's safety and security and justice committee says that the prospects of creating an effective new unit to replace the elite crime-fighting Scorpions are good. They say it had been agreed that a team of four representatives each from the police and Scorpions would make proposals on transitional mechanisms to ensure the effective transfer of DSO staff.

A supervisor at a Johannesburg spray-painting firm faces suspension after he allegedly spray-painted two workers for being sloppy when working on clients' cars. Gerald Fizpatrick, owner of Judges Refurbishments in Selby, says workers Ntokozo Mpanzi and Sibusiso Mathebula lodged a complaint with the Department of Labour after a supervisor allegedly spray-painted their faces with silver car paint.

A THOUGHT

OUR WINDOWS ON THE WORLD: EYES
--------------------------------------

Each organ in our bodies is very important to us. Our lives would change if even only one of them were missing. For example, our eyes…

Did you ever think what you would have done if you didn’t have your eyes? You wouldn’t be able to know what your parents, brothers or sisters, or friends look like. You wouldn’t be able to see all the beautiful things. You wouldn’t be able to play most of the games you now do. You wouldn’t be able to read this or see colourful pictures. You wouldn’t be able to imagine what a rabbit or a dog looks like, because you would never have seen one. You wouldn’t be able to perform your tasks with ease. You might not even be able to find your way around home. You wouldn’t be able to see any colours or shapes, nor would you know what light is or be able to notice any of these things. The list is endless.

Allah created all humans with eyes with which they can see. Allah has given humans this very important asset.

Our eyes serve very important functions. They perform critical processes of which we are completely unaware, and only after which we can see around.

THE SMILE

LIKE EVERYONE ELSE
---------------------

Paul was planning a move into his new house, which is only two blocks away from his present house. So he called a moving company for an estimate. All that Paul wanted the moving company to move was his big, old grandfather clock. But the moving company wanted to charge $350. for this, so Paul decided that he would move it himself.

As he was on his way, he saw a drunk coming his way and tried to avoid him, but, still, the drunk walked right into him.

Paul angrily shouted, "Hey! Watch where you are going!"
The drunk replied, "You watch where you are going!"
Paul said, "No! You watch where YOU are going. Can't you see that I'm carrying this clock?!"

The drunk said, "It's your fault! Why don't you just wear a watch like everyone else?"
