HADITH/SAYINGS OF MUHAMMAD
SALLALLAHU ALYHI WA SALLAM

Sayyadatina Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: I never felt jealous of any of the wives of the Prophet Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam as much as I did of Khadijah (May Allah be pleased with her), although I have never seen her, but the Prophet Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam used to mention her very often. Whenever he slaughtered a sheep, he would cut it into pieces and send them to the women friends of Khadijah (May Allah be pleased with her). When I sometimes said to him: "You treat Khadijah in such a way as if there is no woman on earth except her". He Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam would say, "Khadijah was such and such (commending her and speaking well of her), and I had children from her". [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Another narration is: And if he Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam slaughtered a sheep, he would send meat to the friends of Khadijah (May Allah be pleased with her) as a present as much as would suffice them.

Another narration is: When a sheep was slaughtered, he Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam would say, "Send this meat to Khadijah's friends.'' Once, Halah bint Khuwailid (May Allah be pleased with her), sister of Khadijah (May Allah be pleased with her), sought permission of Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam to enter. He recognized and recalled to his mind the manner of Khadijah (May Allah be pleased with her) and was deeply moved. He said, "O Allah, she must be Halah bint Khuwailid". [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Commentary: This Hadith brings out the following five points:
1. A brief reference to the great qualities of Khadijah (May Allah be pleased with her).
2. The love that Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam had for Khadijah (May Allah be pleased with her) because of her great qualities.
3. Reference to the kindness which Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam continued to show to the women who were close to Khadijah (May Allah be pleased with her).
4. Expression of the sentiments which the remembrance of some deceased friend brings with it. These sentiments can be pleasing as well as painful.

NEWS

Israel's defence minister says the country's leaders are considering a dormant Saudi plan offering comprehensive peace with the Arab world. Ehud Barak says it’s time to pursue an overall peace deal because there was very little progress in individual negotiations with Syria and the Palestinians.

Iraq's ruling Shia parties have demanded changes to a deal that would allow US troops to stay in the country until 2011. A draft was agreed last week after months of negotiations between Baghdad and Washington, but the Shia alliance has now reviewed the document and says there are several elements it is not happy with.

Zimbabwe's opposition leader Morgan Tsvangarai says he is confident that parties discussing the country's power-sharing negotiations will strike a deal at a Southern African regional security summit this week. Leaders of Angola, Mozambique and Swaziland, the security committee of the South Africa Development Community (SADC), are meeting to help Zimbabwe's political rivals break the deadlock over the allocation of cabinet posts.

International business optimistic over SA economy - A group of international business executives says South Africa should weather the current storm on global financial markets. The expression of confidence has come from the Presidential International Investment Council which met with President Kgalema Motlanthe and Cabinet Ministers in Mossel Bay over the weekend.

Thousands of disgruntled ANC supporters tore up their membership cards and threw them into a bin yesterday in protest at party president Jacob Zuma’s leadership. The demonstration, reminiscent of the 1960 anti-dompas protests, was in Cape Town, where former Gauteng premier Mbhazima Shilowa told supporters of the preparations for the formation of a breakaway party. The meeting was one of a series convened by the yet-to-be-formed breakaway party and by the ANC across the country as the two battle for the hearts and minds of voters ahead of next year’s general election.

POEM
MY BELOVED
By Ahmed M Hashim
------------------
There was a time in my youth,
When Islam was only a custom.
They said "say La IIaha IIIa Allah,..
And pray, you'll go to Heaven."

Ah, how simple, no struggle in this,
Just a word, and simple act.
Thereafter I'm absorbed in this world again,
With my 'assured' place in Paradise intact.

But this was not to be my fate
For ALLAH chose to guide my heart.
I learnt of a man who struggled so hard
When his mission was from the start.

The story of someone who had morals,
Spoke gently, kindness he knew.
Never fearing to say what's right,
His conviction in ISLAM was true.

The touch of his hand was as soft as silk
To comfort a crying child.
To mend his clothes, or do the chores,
Never complaining, he always smiled.

A living he made with his bare hands,
The same that held his mighty sword.
Valour shone from the edge of his blade,

His smell was always of musk,
And cleanliness he kept at his best.
Stark contrast with the heroes of today,
Who stink of beer and sweat.

He held the hands of his companions.
Unashamed to play with many children.
So modest, so humble, a perfect example,
That strangers could not recognise him.

His eyes slept little for nights were precious,
His prayers he treasured much greater.
To pray Tahajjud in the depths of night,
Seeking forgiveness, and nearness to his Creator.

He broke his tooth for me at Uhud,
And bled for me at Ta'if.
He cried for me, tears of concern,
Just so I could have this belief.

His enemies admired his teachings,
Uniting every religion, every clan.
Till ISLAM came to every corner of the world,
O, but indeed he was only a man.

To own a house, or build his wealth
Was not his main priority.
To establish ISLAM was more essential,
To bring us under a Higher Authority.

Don't you want him to plea for your case,
When before ALLAH-The Judge-you stand?
Don't you wish to be around his fountain,
A burning desire to drink from his hand?

So I love him more than all creation,
My Leader, my Humble Prophet.
Muhammad (SAWS) was a mercy to all mankind,
And to me, he is MY BELOVED!

THE SMILE
THE BLIND PILOTS
------------------
The cabin door opens. Two men dressed in pilots' uniforms walk up the aisle. Both are wearing dark glasses, one is using a guide dog, and the other is tapping his way along the aisle with a cane.

Nervous laughter spreads through the cabin, but the men enter the cockpit, the door closes, and the engines start up. The passengers begin glancing nervously around, searching for some sign that this is just a little practical joke. None is forthcoming.

The plane moves faster and faster down the runway, and the people sitting in the window seats realize they're headed straight for the water at the edge of the airport. As it begins to look as though the plane will plough into the water, panicked screams fill the cabin. At that moment, the plane lifts smoothly into the air. The passengers relax and laugh a little sheepishly, and soon all retreat into their magazines, secure in the knowledge that the plane is in good hands.

In the cockpit, one of the blind pilots turns to the other and says, "You know, Bob, one of these days, they're gonna scream too late and we're all gonna die."
