Uthman RA said that he was surprised at the conduct of a person:
Who knows the world to be transient, [and still] loves it;
Who knows death to be certain, yet does not take it seriously;
Who believes in hell, [but still] commits sin;
Who believes in the existence of God, [but who nevertheless] seeks assistance from others,
Who is aware of paradise, [but is nonetheless] engaged in worldly pleasures;
Who knows Satan to be his enemy, [and still] obeys [the] dictates [of Satan].
Who believes in predestination, [but still] feels aggrieved with what happens;
Who knows that accounts [are] to be rendered on the day of resurrectionb [but even so] hoards wealth.

His mother was Asmaa the daughter of the Haafidh, Musaa bin Ismaa`eel at-Tabudhakee and it was under him and his father that ibn Abee Aasim began his studies. He also had the opportunity to study under his grandfather, Abu Aasim. His brother, Uthmaan bin `Amr bin Abee Aasim was also considered to be from the great scholars of that age. After the age of seventeen, he travelled to various lands in the pursuit of knowledge and during his travels accompanied a number of the Sufi scholars such as Abu Turaaban-Nakhshabee.

He was appointed as the Qaadee in Asbahaan for thirteen years until the year 282H. When he passed away his funeral was attended by an estimated two hundred thousand people. He used to say: “I do not like that my circles be attended by the innovator, or one who makes false allegations, or one given to cursing and abusing, or one who openly commits sins or one who has deviated from the way."

Abu ash-Shaykh said: "he held a lofty station in terms of modesty, virtue, abstinence and chastity."

Abu al-Abbaas an-Nasawee said: "Abu Bakr bin Abee Aasim, was from the inhabitants of Basrah, from the Sufis of the Masjid. He was amongst the Ahlus Sunnah and Hadeeth, from the ascetics and those who enjoined the good and forbade the evil. He accompanied the ascetics such as Abu Turaab and travelled with him. He was, trustworthy and precise, noble."

Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Muhammad al-Madeenee al-Bazzaar said: "I went to Basra while Ahmad bin Hanbal RA was still living and I asked him concerning the most knowledgeable in Fiqh of them. He replied that there was no one in Basra who was a greater faqeeh than Ahmad bin `Amr bin Abee Aasim."

Abu ash-Shaykh said: "I heard my son narrate from Abu Abdullaah al-Kasaa`ee; I heard ibn Abee Aasim say: When the affair of al-Alawee occurred in Basra all of my books were lost, so I re-wrote fifty thousand Ahadith from memory. I used to go to the green grocers' shop and write using the light of his lamp. Then I realised that I had not asked the permission of the owner of the lamp [to sit in its light] so I went to the sea and washed away all I had written and wrote it again.

The book he wrote on Aqeedah was 'as-Sunnah' and it was published with the Tahqeeq of Muhammad Naasir ad-Deen al-Albaanee. May Allah have mercy upon him.

At least 21 Mexican inmates have been killed in a riot in a prison near the US border after feuding gangs set fire to the building. The riot broke out early on Monday in Reynosa, which has seen increased violence among drug-running cartels in the border town's jail.

Scorpions disbanded - A joint committee of Parliament has adopted two bills which see the end of the Directorate of Special Operations (Scorpions) crime fighting unit and the establishment of a new unit within the South African Police Service (SAPS). After months of public hearings, petitions and deliberations, the final decision on Scorpions was taken. They will be disbanded and be replaced by a unit located within the SAPS. This is done by the adoption of the NPA Amendment Bill, as well as the SAPS Amendment Bill.

National Honor recipients named - Bryan Habana, Percy Montgomery, Patrick "Ace" Ntsoelengoe, Makhaya Ntini, Sibongile Khumalo and Ladysmith Black Mambazo are among the people who will receive the country's highest honour. The Presidency announced the names of people who will be bestowed with National Orders at the 12th Ceremony at the Union Buildings in Tshwane. The National Orders ceremony will recognise those who made contributions to sport, art, music, literature and the struggle against apartheid. Authors Alfred Hutchinson and Lewis Nkosi will receive orders for their work in literature.

Method
Preheat the oven to 180c and grease and line a 23cm square cake pan. Cream the Butter and sugar together. Add the eggs and vanilla and beat well. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternatively to batter with the soured cream. Mix pecan nuts sugar and cinnamon together. Pour half the batter into the prepared cake pan. Sprinkle with half the cinnamon mixture then pour the remaining batter over. Sprinkle with the rest of the cinnamon mixture. Bake for 30/40 minutes. Allow to cool, then cut into squares to serve.

Whilst making Salaah it is Makruh to gather one's clothes in order to prevent them from getting dirty with soil.

NAFS

Nafs has two meanings:

a. Passion or baser and lower self. Passion is a comprehensive word consisting of greed, anger and other evil attributes. The Prophet Sallallahu Alyhi Wa Sallam said: “Your greatest enemy is your passion lying by your two sides.”

b. 'Soul.' When Nafs assumes calmness and has removed passion, it is then termed Nafs Mutmainna or satisfied soul as Allah says: “0 satisfied soul, return to your Lord satisfied and satisfying him”-89: 27. In the first meaning, Nafs is with the, party of the devil.

When the calm nature of Nafs does not become perfect, it is called Nafs Lawwamah or self-accusing soul, as such a soul rebukes one for neglecting divine duties. If the soul gives up protests and surrenders itself to the devil, it is called Nafs Ammarah or passion addicted to evils. The Quran refers to this in verse 12:53.
