CORRECTION

In yesterday's Newsletter under the Column 'THIS WEEK IN HISTORY' We wrote -

"02 Thul Hijjah, Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam married Fatima Radiyallahu Anha."

It should rather read...

THE FRIDAY SERMON

The SACRIFICE - Eidul Adhaa
-------------------------------

Allah is the Greatest (of all). Allah is the Greatest (of all). There is none worthy of worship besides Allah. Allah is the Greatest (of all) and all praise is due to Allah.

The Prophet, Muhammed (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has said: "The son of Adam does not do any action on the day of An-Nahr (Animal slaughter) more beloved in the sight of Allah than slaughtering an animal causing the blood to flow. Verily he will come on the day of Resurrection with (the reward of) the animal's horns, its hair and its hooves. The blood reaches an accepted position with Allah before it touches the ground. Therefore bless a person's soul by sacrifice." [TIRMIZI]

Allah is the greatest (of all). Allah is the Greatest (of all). There is none worthy of worship besides Allah and Allah is the Greatest (of all). Allah is the Greatest (of all). All praise is due to Allah. The companions of Muhammed (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) asked him "O messenger of Allah, what are these sacrifices?" he said "it is the Sunnah of your father, Ebrahim (Alaihis Salaam)." The companions enquired "What reward is there for us by carrying out this sacrifice, O Prophet of Allah?" He replied "Every hair is equivalent to a reward." The companions enquired, "What about the wool, O messenger of Allah?" He answered "Every fibre of wool would be equivalent to a reward." (Ahmed, Ibn Maajah)

Allah is the greatest (of all). Allah is the Greatest (of all). There is none worthy of worship besides Allah and Allah is the Greatest (of all). Allah is the Greatest (of all) and all praise is due to Allah. Muhammed (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "He who has wealth by which he is capable of making sacrifice and yet does not make the sacrifice should not attend our places of Eid Salaah." (Haakim).

Allah is the Greatest (of all). Allah is the Greatest (of all). There is none worthy of worship besides Allah and Allah is the Greatest (of all). Allah is the Greatest (of all) and all praise is due to Allah. Ibn Umar (Radhiallahu anhu) has said, "Sacrifice can be made for two further days after the day of sacrifice." [Maalik]

Ali (Radhiallahu Anhu) has also reported the same. The above mentioned Ahaadeeth are on a few virtues regarding the day of sacrifice. The details of which you may learn from the Ulama (Scholars of Islam).

I seek protection with Allah from Shaytaan, the accursed.

Allah says: "Neither the flesh nor it's blood reaches Allah. Yes, it is the Taqwa (piety) from your side which reaches Him (Allah). Likewise, We have subjugated them to you so that you may express the greatness of Allah for that upon which he has guided you and give glad tidings to those who do good." [Surah Al-Anbiya]

(Taken from "Khutbaatul Ahkaam" by Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi Rahmatullah alaihi - pg 110)

DUA (PRAYER)

Rasoolullah (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) once said to Fatima (Radiyallahu Anha): "Rise and proceed to your Qurbaani and see it being slaughtered. With the falling of the first drop of blood all your sins will be forgiven and recite:

"Truly my Salaah, my offering of the sacrifice, my life and death are for Allah, the Cherisher of the world. He has no partners. Thus I am commanded and I am the first to submit to his will."

Upon this, Imraan Bin Husain (Radiyallahu anhu), the narrator of this Hadeeth asked: "O Messenger of Allah, is this reward confined to you and your family alone?" Rasoolullah (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) replied: "No, but for the entire Ummah."

(Al-Hisnul Hasin pg 165)

RECIPE

Paprika Pot - Roast Chicken

15 chicken portions
10 ml barbecue spice
10 ml paprika
5 ml peri - peri powder
30 ml tomato chutney
5 ml salt
60 ml melted butter or cooking oil
3 large potatoes, peeled and halved
250 g baby carrots
250g baby sweetcorn

Clean, wash and drain chicken well. Prick each portion thoroughly with a fork and rub in spices, chutney and salt. Heat butter in a wide - based saucepan and brown chicken on all sides, about 15 minutes. Cover saucepan and steam a further 10 minutes. Pile chicken onto one side of saucepan; add potatoes, carrots and sweetcorn and cook, covered, until vegetables are soft, about 10-15 minutes. If pot - roast becomes too dry, add about 50 ml hot water.

COOKING TIP

ABOUT SAFFRON: Saffron is the dried, bright red stigmas of the flower Crocus Sativus, which is a relatively easy-to-grow perennial. It lies dormant all summer, then pushes its purple blossoms up through the mulch just as other plants are succumbing to frost.

Each  blossom offers up to three scarlet stigmas. Plant the bulbs in summer and harvest the stigmas in fall. A starter supply of about 50 bulbs costs about $30 and will produce about a tablespoon of the spice the first year. However, each year more flowers will grow, and therefore you'll get more of the spice.

Ultimately, your investment will pay off. Fresh saffron threads can be used immediately for cooking, or they can be dried and stored. To dry them, place on paper towels and leave for several days in a warm place. Then transfer them to an airtight container and keep in a cool, dry place.
