THE FRIDAY SERMON

Extra Nawaafil Salaah during the day and night

All forms of abundance and praise is due to Allah for His blessings. We remember Allah in a manner that does not leave any trace of pride or resentment in our hearts. We thank Allah who makes the night and day a place for those who take heed or express gratefulness to him, we bear witness that there is no God besides Allah, the unique. He is one and has no partner. We bear witness that Muhammed (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) is His messenger and servant, who was sent with the truth, as a giver of glad tidings and as a warner. Salutations of Allah be upon him, his family and his honoured companions, who strived in the worship of their creator in the mornings and evenings to such an extent that each one of them became guided to the Deen and a shining lamp (illuminating the road to guidance).

Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has said that Allah says: "My slave continues to come nearer to Me with superogatory (Nawaafil) prayers until I start loving him." (Bukhari)

Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: "It is necessary to stand in optional prayers during the night because this was the practice of the pious generation before you and it is a means of gaining nearness to your Sustainer. It is also an atonement for your sins and a strength against vice." (Tirmizi)

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has said: "O slave of Allah do not be like that one, who used to stand (at) night in worship, but left it." (Bukhari, Muslim)

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has also said: "Verily Deen is easy, a person who makes it difficult on him, will be overwhelmed by it, so be moderate (in your affairs), seek the nearness of Allah, be happy and seek assistance (by worship) in the morning and evening and in a part of the night (for the hereafter)." (Bukhari)

Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) also stated: "Whoever was unable to complete his section of Quranic recital at night and reads it between the Salaah of Fajr and Zuhr, it will be written for him as if he had read it at night." (Muslim)

I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Shaytaan.

Quraanic Ayah: "Remember thy Sustainer within yourself with humbleness and fear, in a low voice in the morning and evening, and be not of the neglectful ones." (Surah A"raaf ayat 205)

DUA (PRAYER)

Dua when drinking the water of Zam Zam

Abdullah Bin Abbas Radiyallau anhu used to recite this Dua before drinking Zam Zam:

"O Allah, I ask you to grant me beneficial knowledge, abundant sustenance and cure from all diseases." (Al-Hisnul Hasin pg 167)

Jabir Radiyallahu anhu narrates that Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said: With whatever intention the water of Zam Zam is consumed, it will be attained.
(Bukhari, Muslim)

If you drink it to be cure of a disease, Allah will cure you. If you drink it for protection, Allah will grant you protection (against anything such as an enemy, disease etc). If you drink it to quench your thirst, it will be quenched.

With family and friends about to undertake the return trip from the Saudi kingdom, the "25 litre Zam Zams" are always part of the return package thus creating opportunity for us to physically and spiritually enhance the body. When drinking, let us not forget to take advantage of an excellent opportunity for Dua as explained in the above mentioned Hadeeth.

RECIPE

TIRAMISU

Ingredients:
4 tsp coffee dissolved into 2 tbsp boiling water
250ml cream
1 tub mascarpone cheese
4 tbsp condense milk
1 pkt finger biscuits
100g chocolate (optional)
½ cup coffee (milk or water

Method:
- Allow coffee to cool
- Whip cream. Blend by hand with mascarpone and condensed milk.
- Add cooled coffee and chocolate.
- Dip biscuits in ½ cup coffee. Layer in a pyrex dish alternatively with cream mixture.
- Decorate with melted chocolate and allow to chill overnight before serving.

COOKING TIP

Onions: If you are only going to use part of an onion, cut off what you want to use from the top stem portion and peel just this part. Leave the skin and root end attached to the piece you want to store. Store in zip-lock type bag or glass jar in refrigerator. This keeps the onion from drying out although you may need to remove a very thin slice from the cut surface before using if it is stored for several days.

THE SMILE

You are on an island in the middle of a lake. The lake is in a remote part of the country and there has never been a bridge connecting the island to the mainland. Every day a tractor and wagon gives hay rides around the island. Puzzled as to how the tractor had gotten onto the island, you ask around and find out that the tractor was not transported to the island by boat or by air. Nor was it built on the island. Explain how the tractor got there?

The Answer: It was driven over in winter when the lake was frozen.
