THE FRIDAY SERMON

REFORMATION OF CHARACTER

All praise is due to Allah Ta'aala, who has beautified man in form by granting him the best stature and size. He has protected him from overgrowth and under development in his shape and stature, but has entrusted the beautification of character to man's exertions and efforts and has encouraged and urged him to refine his character by admonishments and warnings.

We bear witness that there is non worthy of worship except Allah Ta'aala, who is alone and has no partner. We also bear witness that our master and leader, Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam is his servant and messenger, from whose forehead lines sparkled the rays of prophethood. The reality of the truth could be witnessed from His characteristics and foretokens.

May Allah's peace and blessings descend upon him, his family and companions who have cleansed Islam from the darkness and gloominess of Kufr (Disbelief). They have completely cut off the roots of falsehood and thus became unaffected with a little or much falsehood.

Good character is the quality of the leader of all prophets (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) and was the best of deeds attributed to the Siddiqeen (the truthful ones). Bad character is an evil which distances us from nearness to Allah Ta'aala. The Nourisher and Sustainer (Rabb) of the entire creation. It leads its perpetrator in the rank of the devils (Shayateen) as Allah Ta'aala mentions "He is indeed successful who purifies it (i.e. the soul) and he who corrupts it, is a failure.

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam has said: "Verily, the weightiest deed to be placed on a believers scale (of deeds) on the day of Qiyaamah, will be good character and surely Allah Ta'aala dislikes and abhors an obscene person." (Tirmizi)

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam has said: "A believer attains by deeds, the stage of a person standing (in Ibaadah) during the night and fasting during the day." (Abu Dawud)

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam has said: "The Muslim who associates with the people and bears their harm with patience is better than him whom does not associate with the people, nor does he patiently bear their harm. (Tirmizi, Ibn Majah)

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam has said: "The believer whose Imaan is most perfect is one with the best character. (Abu Dawud, Daarimi)

I seek refuge with Allah from Shaytaan, the accursed.

"And external and secretive sin. Verily those who commit sin will soon be awarded by the sin which they have perpetrated" (Al An'aam, Ayat 120)

(Khutbaatul Ahkaam, Pg 46/47)

DUA (PRAYER)

DUAA TO BE RECITED BETWEEN THE TWO SAJDAHS

When sitting between the two Sajdahs, read this Dua:

"Allahummagh firli, war hamni, wa aafini, wah dini, war zuqni, waj burni, war fa'ni"

O Allah forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me safety, guide me, provide me with sustenance, repair my losses and grant me a high position.

N.B. The above mentioned Dua is advised. It is not necessary. Salaah will be valid without this Dua however reciting this Dua will add to the beauty of your Salaah. A person can also recite just a portion of the Dua if the entire Dua seems too long to recite or to memorise. The commas in the Dua indicate as to where a person has the option of stopping.

DID YOU KNOW...

"The Roman ruler Julius Caesar established January 1 as New Year's Day in 46 BC. The Romans dedicated this day to Janus, the god of gates, doors, and beginnings. The month of January was named after Janus, who had two faces - one looking forward and the other looking backward." (World Book Encyclopedia)

So Caesar felt that the month named after this god (“...January”) would be the appropriate “door” to the year.

Therefore, New Year's celebrations are founded on pagan traditions and as Christianity spread, many pagan holidays were incorporated into the Christian calendar.

Praise be to Allah for the purity of Islam which is void of all pagan rituals and festivals.

"This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion." [Al Ma'idah, Verse 3]

THE SMILE

Taxiing down the tarmac, the jetliner abruptly stopped, turned around and returned to the gate. After an hour-long wait, it finally took off.

A concerned passenger asked the flight attendant, "What was the problem?"

"The pilot was bothered by a noise he heard in the engine," explained the Flight Attendant...

"and it took us a while to find a new pilot."
