THE FRIDAY SERMON

THE DEEDS FOR THE MONTH OF SHABAAN (AND THE 15TH OF SHABAAN)

All praise be to Allah who has stipulated sustenance and periods of life. He has given us orders regarding His remembrance and obedience in the morning and at night.

I bear witness that there is non-worthy of worship besides Allah Ta'aala, alone who has no partner. I bear witness that Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam, His Servant and Messenger is the king of the righteous and those having perfection. Peace be upon him, his family and his companions who were the best of companions and families. May such salutations and peace be upon them in abundance.

Verily we are experiencing the month of shabaan. A month that is before Ramadaan and has blessings and virtues in abundance.

Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam has said: "Keep record of the moon of Shabaan for (awaiting) the month of Ramadaan." (Tirmizi)

Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam has said: "Do not fast a day or two before Ramadaan unless a person is in the habit of fasting a specific day (e.g. every Monday), for him it is permissible to fast on any such day (Prior to Ramadaan)." (Bukhaari)

Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam has said: "On this night the decree of the birth of the children of Adam (Alaihis Salaam) for the present year is therein mentioned. The deaths of those who will pass during the year are also decreed. It is also in this night that the record of the actions are taken up and likewise it is a night in which their sustenance is decreed." (Baihaqi)

Some scholars interpret the above Hadeeth to relate to the 15th of Shabaan however the preferred opinion is that it relates to the Night of Power (Laylatul Qadr) which appears in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadaan.

Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam has said: "When the 15th night of Shabaan approaches, awake during the night and fast during the day, for at the time of sunset, Allah Ta'aala descends (His mercy) to the first sky and proclaims…Is there anyone who seeks forgiveness, whereby I can forgive him? Is there anyone who seeks sustenance whereby I can sustain him? Is there anyone in problems or difficulty whereby I can cure him. So I may give him comfort. Likewise, Allah Ta'aala showers His peace and blessings until dawn arrives. (Ibn Majah)

I seek refuge in Allah from Shaytaan, the accursed

Allah Ta'aala mentions: "We revealed it on a blessed night. We are ever warning. Whereupon every wise command is made clear. As a command from our presence. We are ever-sending (Prophets of guidance)."

The above verse is concluded by most scholars to refer to the night of Qadr.

(Khutbaatul ahkaam)

DUA (PRAYER)

WHEN LOSING A CHILD

When losing a child, the bereaved person should recite the following:

"Alhamdu lillahi Alaa kulli haal….Inna lillaahi wa inna ilayhi raajioon"

All praises due to Allah through every condition…To Allah do we belong and to Him is our return.

It is mentioned in a Hadeeth that when a (Muslim) person loses his child, Allah Ta'aala asks the angels: "You have taken the soul of my servants chils?" They reply "Yes". Allah Ta'aala then asks "What di my servant say upon this?" They reply "He said 'Alhamdu lillah' and 'Inna lillaahi wa inna ilayhi raajioon'." Upon this Allah says: "Go build a palace in Jannah for this servant of mine and call it Baytul Hamd (The Palace of Praise)."

COOKING TIP

Erase earaches with garlic

Painful ear infections drive millions to doctors' offices every year. To cure one fast, just place two drops of warm garlic oil into your aching ear twice daily for five days. This simple treatment can clear up ear infections faster than prescription meds, say experts at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Scientists say garlic's active ingredients (germanium, selenium, and sulfur compounds) are naturally toxic to dozens of different pain-causing bacteria. To whip up your own garlic oil gently simmer three cloves of crushed garlic in a half a cup of extra virgin olive oil for two minutes, strain, then refrigerate for up to two weeks. For an optimal experience, warm this mix slightly before using so the liquid will feel soothing in your ear canal.
