QURAAN LESSON

SURAH NOOH 71: (Prophet Nooh Alaihis Salaam)

This Surah is Makki. It has 28 verses and 2 sections.
With the name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Very- Merciful

"Have you not seen how Allah has created the seven skies in layers…" [15] " And He has made the moon a celestial light them and the sun a lamp" [16] " Allah has created you from the earth in a unique manner" [17] " He will then return you to earth and then remove you from it." [18] " And Allah has made the earth a bedding for you…" [19] "…So that you travel in its wide roads." [20]

COMMENTARY: Last week's lesson focused on the manner in which Noh Alaihis Salaam invited his people. Mention was made of how he adopted a very unique method when inviting towards Deen. He did not speak harshly and pick out faults but rather he spoke of Allah's greatness in a very humble tone.

This week's lesson carries on with Nooh Alaihis Salaam explaining to Allah Ta'aala exactly what method he adopted when inviting others towards Deen. We should keep in mind that every verse or incident mentioned in the Quraan is there for a reason. There are no incidents mentioned for mere entertainment but every verse has a lesson. These verses in particular teaches us how to invite others towards this beautiful Deen. It is very difficult to understand the being of Allah. Our minds are very limited and can never perceive Allah's being. We should rather look and ponder over the creation of Allah. This will give us an idea of the greatness and power of Allah Ta'aala. This is what Nooh Alaihis Salaam done in verse 15 and 16. It would have been very difficult for people to understand who is Allah so he spoke of Allah's power and grandeur. In verse 17 and 18, he reminds the people in a very suttle way that Allah has created you from earth and dust and he has put you on earth and one day you will return to Him and be answerable for every action. Once again in verse 19 and 20, Nooh Alaihis Salaam reminds the people of the bounties that Allah has bestowed them with.

POEM

Ya Allah, Forgive Me When I Whine.

Today, upon a bus,
I saw a girl with golden hair.
and wished I was as fair.
When suddenly she rose to leave,
I saw her hobble down the aisle.
She had one leg and wore a crutch.
But as she passed, a smile.
Ya Allah, forgive me when I whine.
I have 2 legs, the world is mine.

I stopped to buy some candy.
The lad who sold it had such charm.
I talked with him, he seemed so glad.
If I were late, it'd do no harm.
And as I left, he said to me,
"I thank you, you've been so kind."
"It's nice to talk with folks like you.
You see," he said, "I'm blind."
Ya Allah, forgive me when I whine.
I have 2 eyes, the world is mine.

Later while walking down the street,
I saw a child with eyes of blue.
He stood and watched the others play.
He did not know what to do.
I stopped a moment and then I said,
"Why don't you join the others, dear?"
He looked ahead without a word.
And then I knew, he couldn't hear.
Ya Allah, forgive me when I whine.
I have 2 ears, the world is mine.

With feet to take me where I'd go.
With eyes to see the sunset's glow.
With ears to hear what I'd know.
Ya Allah, forgive me when I whine.
I've been blessed indeed,
the world is mine.

"And He grants you whatever you ask of Him. If you try to count Allah's bounties, you will never be able to do so. Indeed, man is extremely unjust and very ungrateful." (Ebrahim: V. 34)

HEALTH TIP

Tame leg cramps with tomato juice

At least one in five people regularly struggle with leg cramps. The culprit? Potassium deficiencies, which occur when this mineral is flushed out by diuretics, caffeinated beverages or heavy perspiration during exercise. But sip 10 ounces of potassium-rich tomato juice daily and you'll not only speed your recovery, you'll reduce your risk of painful cramp flare-ups in as little as 10 days.

THE SMILE

An ingenious example of speech and politics occurred at an assembly of international ambassadors. The Palestinian Representative's Speech at the assembly...

"Before beginning my talk I want to tell you a story that took place in the time of Moses. There was a saint that lived in the mountains. One day, he struck a rock and it brought forth water, he thought, what a good opportunity to have a bath! He removed his clothes, put them aside on the rock and entered the water. When he got out and wanted to dress, his clothes had vanished. "An Israeli had stolen them"

The Israeli representative jumped up furiously and shouted, "What are you talking about? There were NO Israelis there then!"

The Palestinian representative smiled and said: "And now that we have made that quite clear, I will begin my speech..."
