SURAH Al-Nooh 71: (The Prophet Noah AS)
This Surah is Makki, and it has 28 verses and 2 Sections.

With the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Very-Merciful

“Because of their sins they were drowned and made to enter the fire. They found none to assist them against Allah.” [25] “Nooh Said, O my Rabb, do not leave even one of the Kariroon on earth.” [26] “Surely if You leave them they will mislead Your bondsmen and only sinners and Kuffaar will be born to them.” [27] “O my Rabb, forgive me, my parents, whoever enters my home as a Mu’min and all the Mu’mineen and Mu’minaat. Increase the oppressors only in destruction.” [28]

These four verses are the concluding verses of Surah Nooh. A major portion of this Surah focuses on Nooh Alaihis Salaam speaking to Allah Ta’aala and informing Allah about his people. The way they rejected his message, the way they turned away from him, the way they choose to worship idols etc. Nooh Alaihis Salaam mentions how he gave them Dawat by speaking of Allah’s greatness and kindness, however they failed to take lesson.

COMMENTARY: Todays, verse 25 mentions that eventually after rejecting the message of Nooh Alaihis Salaam and neglecting the rights of Allah, they were given a punishment in the form of a flood and that flood was just the tip of the iceberg for verily a greater punishment waits for them in the grave and in the hereafter. They told Nooh Alaihis Salaam that they worship other ‘gods’ such as Wadd, Suwa etc but these idols could not offer any assistance when the punishment came.

Also, Nooh Alaihis Salaam makes a Dua in verse 26 that Allah should destroy all the Kuffaar. Allah should not leave a single Kaafir alive. The reason for such a Dua is mentioned in verse 27. i.e. If anyone from the Kuffaar is left on earth, there is a chance that they might influence the Mu’mineen into Kufr and in this way the disease of Kufr will sprout once again. From here we can see that Nooh Alaihis Salaam did not have hatred for the people that committed Kufr but rather hatred for the quality of Kufr within them. Therefore we should never hate any creation of Allah but rather hate their evil actions.

In the last verse, Nooh Alaihis Salaam’s Dua is made. One of the reasons why he first asks forgiveness for himself is because it was understood that every man will be answerable for his own actions therefore along with concern for the Ummah, never look past your own actions. Thereafter parents are mentioned, which shows their importance. They could be included in the group “Mu’mineen” that is mentioned in the same Dua but Ulema mention that they were mentioned separately to show their importance.
