ZAM ZAM WATER

Q. Mention some virtues of Zam-Zam Water?

A. *Zam-Zam water is from Jannah (paradise).
*Zam-Zam is the best water on earth.
*Zam-Zam is a cure for every sickness.
*Ibn Abbas Radiyallahu Anhu narrates that Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam said: “The best water on the surface of this world is Zam-Zam. In it is food for the hungry and cure for the sick.” (Tabarani)

*Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam used to fill Zam-Zam in water bags and sprinkle over the ill and give them to drink.
*The blessed saliva of Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam is mixed in Zam-zam. Ibn Abbas Radiyallahu Anhu reports that Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam came to the well of Zam-Zam so we drew out a bucket of water. Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam drank some water and spat out some back in the bucket. We poured the bucket back into the well. (Ahmad)

Q. With what intention should Zam-Zam be consumed?

A. According to a Hadeeth, with whatever intention the water of Zam-Zam is consumed, it will be attained. If you drink it to be cured of a disease, Allah will cure you. If you drink it for protection, Allah will grant you protection (against anything such as an enemy, disease etc.). If you drink it to quench your thirst, it will be quenched. Therefore one should make a Duaa and drink it with the intention that Allah Ta’aala should accept his/her Duaas due to the blessings of Zam-Zam.

Q. Is it OK to put Zam-Zam water on the body by pouring?

A. It is permissible to apply Zam-Zam water on one’s body. In pouring, the Zam-Zam may get wasted.

Q. We are going to Makkah Insha’Allah and someone at work (non Muslim), has asked me to bring back some Zam-Zam water for them. Is it permissible for them to consume the Zam-Zam water?

A. it is permissible for non-Muslims to drink of it. Upto one year after the conquest of Makkah Mukarramah, non-Muslims were permitted to go for Hajj and Umrah. It is obvious that they too used to drink Zam-Zam water. (Kitabul Fatawa 4/82)

One should explain them that this is sacred water hence it should be respected and used accordingly.

Q. Can we dilute Zam-Zam water with normal tap water to make extra Zam-Zam water? Can this be done on a continuous basis e.g. you have a bottle of Zam-Zam water and as it gets nearly empty, you refill it with normal tap water. This is done over and over again.

A. Yes it can be dilluted. Insha Allah by adding other water to Zam-Zam the blessings of Zam-Zam will remain and not decrease. To support this, the narration of Nasa’I is cited that some people came to Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam. Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam gave them the left over water of His Wudhu and told them that when it is almost finish then add other water to it.

The narration of Nasa’I is as follows: Talq Bin Ali Radiyallahu anhu relates that we went as a delegation to meet Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam. We took Bay’ah (pledged allegiance) and performed Salah with Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam. We also informed Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam that there is a church in our land. We requested Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam for the left over water of his Wudhu. Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam called for water, performed Wudhu, gargled his mouth and spat the water in a container. Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam ordered us that when you return home break the church, pour this water in that place and make that a masjid. We replied: O Nabi of Allah Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam we live in a far off land, the heat is also extreme, the water will evaporate. Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam replied: add water to it. It will only increase in good (i.e. the blessed water will increase the added water in its blessings). (Malfoozat Faqihul Ummah Pg. 15 Maktabah Mahmoodiyyah Mirat.)

Q. Explain this narration? “The difference between us and the hypocrites is that they do not drink a lot of Zam-Zam.” (Ibn Majah)

A. The narration mentioned is straight forward and easy to understand. As Muslims, we should always cease the opportunity to consume the blessed water of Zam-Zam. When we are in the vicinity of the well, we should take full advantage and drink to our fill. How unfortunate is that person that buys water from the shop when Zam-Zam is available. However, we should keep in mind that this should be done when there is unlimited excess to Zam-Zam. In the case where we are visiting a Haaji and we are offered Zam-Zam, we should only drink what we are offered for in this case, Zam-Zam is limited.

INVENTIONS

Forget the spaceship, the satnav or the iPad - the best inventions are so seamlessly absorbed into our lives that we forget how clever they are...

BUBBLE WRAP - Engineers Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes came up the idea for bubble wrap while working on a new type of textured wallpaper in 1957. By sealing two shower curtains together, they trapped a layer of bubbles. It didn’t work as wall paper, but Chavannes had something of a eureka moment during a flight when it seemed to him for a moment as though his plane’s descent was being cushioned by clouds. it planted a seed of an idea that his bubbly wallpaper could actually be used for something very different. So it was that his shower curtain prototype was refined and marketed instead as protective packaging. The appealing popping sound made by bursting the air pockets has led to a worldwide Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day, which falls on the last Monday in January. POP!

STICKING PLASTER - Like many other inventions, the inventor owes his invention to his wife. The plaster was invented in 1920 by Earle Dickson, who worked for the pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson in new Jersey. Dickson was inspired by his wife, Josephine, who often burnt or cut herself in the kitchen. There had been bandages before, but none with the same adhesive, and easy to apply, qualities meaning they usually had to be put on by someone else. With the sticking plaster, Mrs Dickson could treat herself. in 1938, a completely sterile plaster was patented and by 1942, Johnson & Johnson were shipping millions of their Band-Aids to the medics treating wounded soldiers.

THE SMILE
A popular motivational speaker was entertaining his audience. He Said : The best years of my life were spent in the arms of a woman who wasn't my wife!" The audience was in silence and shock. The speaker added : "And that woman was ... my Mother!"

There was laughter and applause from the audience.

A week later, a top manager trained by that same motivational speaker tried to crack this very effective joke at home. He was a bit foggy after a long day at the office. He said loudly to his wife who was preparing dinner, "The greatest years of my life were spent in the arms of a woman who was not my wife!"

The wife went; "Ah!" with shock and rage.

Standing there for 20 seconds trying to recall the second half of the joke, the manager finally blurted out, "... and I can't remember who she was!"

By the time the manager regained his consciousness, he was on a hospital bed nursing burns from boiling water.
