HADEETH

IMPORTANCE OF SINCERITY

Abu Huraira Radiyallahu Anhu narrates that Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam said: “Verily Allah does not look at you figure not at your appearance but He looks at your heart (intention) and your deeds.” In another narration: “Allah does not look at your wealth”

Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam mentions as part of a lengthy Hadeeth: “Actions are judged by their intentions”

From the above mentioned Ahadeeth, we can clearly see the importance of our intentions when doing any act. The following incidents will shed more light on the subject.

The consequences of being insincere...

THE STORY OF QUZMAAN

Aasim bin Amr Bin Qatadah Radiyallahu Anhu narrates that a man lived amongst them whose identity no one really knew. He was only only known as Quzmaan. Whenever his name was mentioned, Nabi Sallallahu alaihi Wa Sallam used to say “he is from the inmates of Jahannam.” He fought very fiercely during the battle of Uhud and single handedly killed seven to eight Mushrikeen. He was a true warrior. However, he was eventually incapacitated by a nasty wound. When he was carried to the Banu Zafar district, many Muslims said to him, “You fought with great courage today, O Quzmaan! Glad tidings to you!” He said, “Glad tidings for what? By Allah! I fought only for the good name of my people. Had it not been for this, I would never have fought.” When his wound became too much for him to bear, he took an arrow from his quiver and used it to commit suicide. (Hayaatus Sahaaba)

The virtue of sincerity...

THE STORY OF A POOR UNATTRACTIVE SAHAABI

Anas Radiyallahu Anhu narrates that a man came to Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam saying, “O Messenger of Allah! I am an unattractive man without any wealth. Will I enter Jannah if I fight those people (the Kuffaar aremy)?” “Certainly,” replied Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam. The man then advanced and fought until he was martyred. When Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam came to his corpse, Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said, “Allah has beautified your face, made you fragnant and increased your wealth.” (Addressing the Sahaaba Radiyallahu Anhum) Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said, “I have seen his two wives from the wide eyed damsels of Jannah pulling at his coat, disputing with each other about who will enter between his skin and his coat.” (Hayaatus Sahaaba)

Ulema mention that one should look at his/her intention and ask himself/herself before, whilst and after every action…Who am I doing this for? Is it to please my Allah or is it for an ulterior motive?

STORY

Bishr Haafi Rahmatulla Alaihi was a very pious person and a friend of Allah. However, the story of how reached such a stage is amazing….

Before his reformation, Bishr Haafi Rahmatulla Alaihi was a drunkard. One day on his way to the pub he saw a piece of paper on which was written “Bismilla hir Rahmaanir Raheem” laying in the street gutter. He stopped to pick it up. He cleaned the paper, applied perfume to it and placed it on a high shelf in his home.

That night a pious person from the area was commanded in a dream: “Go to Bishr and tell him: You had perfumed and honoured My Name, I shall cleanse you of your sins and elevate you.” The pious mans eyes opened. He thought, “Bishr is a Faasiq (Sinner). My dream is false.” He made Wudhu, performed two Rakaats Salaah and went back to sleep. He saw the same dream, woke up with the same thought in mind and fell asleep again. He then saw the same dream for the third time.

In the morning, the pious person sent for Bishr but he was informed that Bishr was in the pub. He went to the pub, stood outside and enquired about Bishr. The pious person was told that Bishr was lying in a drunken stupor. The pious man said: “Tell him that someone has brought a message from Allah Ta’aala.” When this message was delivered, it penetrated his heart, sobering him. Bishr was overcome with fear. He said to his friends in the pub: “I do not know if this is a message of reprimand or punishment. Farewell! You will not see me again.” He emerged from the pub, the pious person delivered the message and Bishr repented becoming one of the closest servants of his time.

One important lesson we can learn from the above incident is respect for Allah’s name and for anything related to Allah’s deen. At times, like the incident above, a little respect or a small action can book your ticket to Jannah. However, it does not mean that we should sin and hope that a small action will save us. Remember Allah’s mercy is abundant but we should never take advantage of it.

THE SMILE

A man and a woman got into a car accident. Their cars got totally demolished but luckily both of them were all right. After they crawled out of the wreckage, the woman says,"wow! Look at the cars they're totaled! But luckily we both didn't even get a scratch! This is a sign that we should become friends and not try to pin the blame on each other.

Man," I totally agree with you." The woman points to a bottle on the ground and says,"that bottle survived the crash just like us, I think its a sign. We should open it and celebrate our new found friendship with it.." She then hands the bottle to the man. He nods his head and because of the nerve-wrecking accident he chugs about a third of the bottle. He hands it back to the woman, who immediately puts the cap back on and hands it back to the man. The man asks,"aren't you having any?" The woman replies...

"no I think ill just wait for the police"
