THE STORY
I salute the Indonesian Judge

A thought provoking incident…

When justice is tampered with mercy...

An Indonesian judge by the name of Marzuki was sitting in judgment of an old lady who pleaded guilty of stealing some tapioca from a plantation.

In her defense, she admitted to the judge that she was indeed guilty of the crime because she was poor and her son was sick while her grandchild was hungry.

The plantation manager insisted that she be punished as a deterrent to others.

The judge going through the documents then looked up and said to the old lady, “I’m sorry but I cannot make any exception to the law and you must be punished.”

The old lady was fined Rp.1 million (USD 100) and if she could not pay the fine then she will be jailed for 2 and a half years as demanded by the law.

She wept as she could not pay the fine.

The judge then took off his hat and put in Rp. 1 million into the hat and said, “In the name of justice, I fine all who are in the court Rp.50 thousand (USD 5.50) as dwellers of this city for letting a child to starve until her grandmother has to steal to feed her grandchild. The registrar will now collect the fines from all present.”

The court managed to collect Rp 3.5 million (USD 350) whereby once the fine was paid off, the rest was given to the old lady … including the fine collected from the plantation manager.

This Indonesian Judge acted according to the true Islamic Sharia as practiced by Ali RA That if a person is hungry, then the punishment for stealing is NOT meted out to such a person and society must feed that poor person.

SUNNAH, (PRACTISES OF MUHAMMAD Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam)
Abu Hurayrah Radiyallahu 'Anhu says: "Rasulullah Sallallhu 'Alayhi Wasallam performed so many Nawaafil prayers that his legs swelled. Someone said to him, you take so many pains, wheras you have been given the good news that your past and present sind have been forgiven? He replied: "Should I not be grateful servant". [TIRMIZI]

Commentary: A detailed narration has been narrated from Sayyiditina 'Aayeshah Radiyallhu 'Anha regarding this thanks-giving. Sayyidina 'Ataa Radiyallahu 'Anhu says: "I once requested 'Aayeshah to a surprising incident of Rasulullah Sallallhu 'Alayhi Wasallam?. 'She replied: 'Which act of Rassulullah Sallallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam was such that it was not surprising'. Thereafter she said: 'One night Rasulullah Sallallhu 'Alayhi Wasallam returned home to sleep and slept with me in my blanket. After a little while, as he was sleeping he said: 'Forget it, let me worship my creator'. Saying this he got up, performed wudhu and began to perform salaah. He began weeping till the tears flowed on to his mubaarak chest. He then performed ruku', and continued crying in this posture. Then performed sajdah and kept on weeping in this posture too. He stood up from the sajdah and remained crying. He remained in this state till the morning when Bilaal came to call out the adhaan. I said: O Messenger of Allah, why did you cry so much? Allah Ta'aala has forgiven all your past and future sins'. Sayyidina Rasulullah Sallallhu 'Alayhi Wasallam replied: 'Should I not be a thankful servant of Allah? Then said: 'Why should I not do so, when these aayaat were revealed to me today, and recite the aayaat of the last ruku' of Sura Aali 'Imran'".

THE SMILE
The Lazy Students

There was a teacher who was shouting at his class because they were so incredibly lazy, “I wouldn’t be surprised if 50% of you flunk this math class,” he said.

One of the kids put up his hand. “But teacher, there aren’t that many in this class,” he said.
