Surah Al-Mulk (The Kingdom) 67
This Surah is Makki, and it has 30 verses and 2 sections

In the Name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Most Merciful

'...so that He may test you as to which of you is better in deeds. [21]

COMMENTARY: This test is more important and is of greater significance in 'death' rather than in 'life', because the one who thinks of death constantly will have the tendency to do more and more righteous deeds. No doubt, the element of test is available in 'life' too, because every step of one's life reminds him of his own inability and powerlessness as against Allah's absolute power, which creates in him the tendency to act righteously. The thought of death, however, is most effective in correcting one's conduct.

Sayyidna Ammar Ibn Yaasir RA reports a Prophetic Hadith which says: "Death is sufficient as a preacher, and certitude is sufficient as a cause of being free from needs." [Transmitted by Tabarani]

This signifies that witnessing the death of friends and relatives is the most effective preacher. If that does not exert any influence on one, nothing else will. And he whom Allah has granted the wealth of faith and certitude is the most need-free person.

Sayyidna Rabi Ibn Anas RA has stated that the thought of 'death' makes man disgusted with this world and makes him inclined towards the Hereafter.

POEM
THINK of YOUR PLIGHT!

Like a flower freshly plucked
Sky-coloured petals neatly tucked
You too, pretty maid, are!

Your tender flesh so creamy and smooth
Will one day wither and wrinkle
This beautifully scented and gentle soft hair
You so cunningly use as your snare
Attracting the many men who dare
Will one day wither with age!

Have you not seen countless others
Beautiful even before your time?
Cleopatra, Eve, Marilyn and the rest
Were they not one day laid to rest?

Will you, O man, not take heed?
Realise that life is but transient
Do but think of your plight
The very earth you so proudly traverse
Will one day speak to you of your sins
Will you, after all this, not think of your plight?

Wassalaam!
Habib Ahmed Sheik

THE SMILE
One fine day, a bus driver went to the bus garage, started his bus, and drove off along the route. No problems for the first few stops-a few people got on, a few got off, and things went generally well. At the next stop, however, a big hulk of a guy got on. Six feet eight, built like a wrestler, arms hanging down to the ground. He glared at the driver and said, "Big John doesn't need to pay!" and sat down at the back.

Did I mention that the driver was five feet three, thin, and basically meek? Well, he was. Naturally, he didn't argue with Big John, but he wasn't happy about it. The next day the same thing happened-Big John got on again, made a show of refusing to pay, and sat down. And the next day, and the one after that and so forth.

This grated on the bus driver, who started losing sleep over the way Big John was taking advantage of him. Finally he could stand it no longer. He signed up for body building courses, karate, judo, and all that good stuff.

By the end of the summer, he had become quite strong; what's more, he felt really good about himself. So on the next Monday, when Big John once Again got on the bus and said, "Big John doesn't pay!," The driver stood up, glared back at the passenger, and screamed, "And why not?" With a surprised look on his face, Big John replied, "Big John has a bus pass."

Management Lesson:" Be sure! What is a problem in the first place before working hard to solve one?"
