I had the following conversation with a college graduate.

“What knowledge do I really possess?” he lamentably asked.

“You have studied at an institution,” I commented. “Did you fulfill the rights of the knowledge that you have acquired?”

“I have not really studied,” he declared.

“Very well,” I realised that the situation required further clarification. “If two lists were to be drawn up of the ignorant and the knowledgeable and your name were to be included amongst the ignorant, will you accept that? This statement (I do not have any knowledge) is a deception. If, however, your condition is truly as you say it is, that would be a different matter.”

An Aalim whilst delivering a lecture claimed, “Words of wisdom must be accepted regardless of its source.”

Someone asked Bernard Shaw, ‘What is the best thing?’

‘Islam,’ was his response.

“What is the worst thing?” asked the questioner, puzzled.

“A Muslim,” replied Bernard Shaw firmly.

How true is his statement? I subsequently commented on this statement,

“His reply to the first question was a ‘bribery’. If he had not ‘bribed’ your intellect, you would not have accepted the second statement. You may have even been prepared to kill him for classing Muslims as the worst of humanity. Bribery assumes many forms and the bribery of one’s intellect is a subtle and treacherous form. If he believed Islam to be ‘the best thing’, then why did he not accept Islam?”

The point to note is the reaction of an individual when he is addressed with the ‘title’ that he has conferred upon himself. He may refer to himself as ‘This lowly servant’ or writes this name in his correspondence. But when someone else refers to him as ‘this lowly servant’, he begins to frown. This indicates that he does not really consider himself as such.

Youth and Drugs - Heart To Heart by Ml Dawud Samson - Part 2 of 2

Ml Dawud Samson, who hails from Cape Town, dedicates much of his time with the youth and addressing their challenges. Moulana mentioned that, of all the many pressures kids between the ages of 12 and 17 years encounter, drugs is the most common and most difficult. Adult’s preoccupation with personal ambition too compounds the problem.

It’s interesting to note that most drug dealers do not do drugs, drug-money is too precious. The annual drug-trade turnover is estimated at around $700 billion. Movies too, with explicit connotations to drugs, money and power, promote this growing trade. The scourge of drugs is so rife, as Moulana mentioned, that it is as easy for a kid to buy drugs as it is for a kid to buy bread!

Moulana advised the youth with the words of Allah The Most Kind:

`Spend in the Path (obedience) of Allah (in worship and striving) and do not throw your own hands (do not lead yourselves) into destruction. Do good, for Allah certainly loves those who do good.’ (Ch2-Vs195)

Ya Shabaab Al Ghad, Oh youth of tomorrow…do not destroy yourself.

Ya Shabaab Al Ghad, Oh youth of tomorrow… have the courage to say `No’ to drugs and end your addictions.

Ya Shabaab Al Ghad, Oh youth of tomorrow…reach out for support; reach out to your Maker Allah. Place your trust in Him and Allah will suffice you.

Ya Shabaab Al Ghad, Oh youth of tomorrow…Allah is the One to depend on, the doors of Repentance are always open.

Ya Shabaab Al Ghad, Oh youth of tomorrow…detox your heart and boost your Imaan; make the Best of Thikr; say LAA to drugs, say LAA to alcohol and say ILLALLAH ONLY Allah!

A US Navy destroyer stops four Mexicans in a row boat rowing towards California. The Captain gets on the loud- hailer and shouts, "Ahoy, small craft. Where are you headed?"

One of the Mexicans puts down his oar, stands up, and shouts, "We are invading the United States of America to reclaim the territory taken by the USA during the 1800's."

The entire crew of the destroyer doubled-over in laughter.

When the Captain is finally able to catch his breath, he gets back on the loud-hailer and asks, "Just the four of you?"

The same Mexican stands up again and shouts, "No, we're the last four. The rest are already there!"
