FALSE RELIGIOSITY: ITS FORMS AND CHARACTERISTICS

Sheikh Abdurrahman al-Sudais - 11 Rabi al-Awwal 1436

His Eminence Sheikh Abdurrahman al-Sudais - May Allah protect him - delivered this Friday Khutbah entitled “False Religiosity: Its Forms and Characteristics.” He spoke about false religiosity which has recently characterised many people. He cautioned against fanaticism and extremism, and equally warned against the other path followed by a number of youths: atheism and scepticism vis-à-vis the incontestable foundational precepts of religion. Then, he showed that true religion resides midway between those two extremes.

O Muslims!
In an era when fierce materialism has become prevalent, spiritual vacuum is rampant, numerous moral values have been utterly eradicated, sweeping intellectual transformations are taking place, culture is oscillating between conflicting trends, souls are estranged in an erratic voyage away from religious virtues, and a plaguing and extremely aching pestilence has infiltrated into the body of the Ummah, exhausted it, and caused it to agonise with unbearable burdens.

It is not surprising to learn that such a plague is capable of defeating even invincible armies equipped with artillery and deadly weapons. This is why religion has denounced it, cautioned people against its perils, and dealt with it with intransigence. We are talking here –May Allah protect you all– about retreat from the firm, reliable grip of religion and deviation from the most refined line of conduct, when people adopt erroneous modes of religious behaviour, mixing up priorities and highlighting deceiving appearances at the expense of truth, constant values, and convictional certitudes in Islamic faith. Thus, we find that some people do not practice what they preach and some others do what they are not supposed to. read more

* Two suspects in Paris attack named - Police in France have identified and released the photographs of two brothers suspected to be involved in the attack on the offices of satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, that left 12 people, including four cartoonists and two police officers, dead. The two brothers have been identified as 32-year-old Said Kouachi and 34-year-old Cherif Kouachi. The two men, along with another person, believed to be a teenager, carried out Wednesday's attack in the heart of Paris before escaping in a car.

* SA to expand nuclear power stations - South Africa's notorious power cuts could soon be a thing of the past as the country plans to expand its nuclear power stations.

* Construction starts on new Gauteng 'city' - Work on the first set of 300 residential units and some of the roads are reportedly already underway. Chinese firm Shanghai Zendai acquired 1600 hectares of land in Modderfontein in 2013 to build the city.

* Farmers evicted for Mugabe project - More than 200 families were evicted from a farm in eastern Zimbabwe to reportedly make way for a game park proposed by first lady Grace Mugabe.

FRUIT PUNCH

Ingredients:
1 cup lemonade
1 cup orange juice
2 cups soda water chilled
2 cups apple juice chilled
4 tblsp concentrated fruit juice, any flavour
2 bananas sliced
4 tblsp lemon juice

Method:
Mix together lemonade, orange juice, soda water, apple juice and fruit juice. Sprinkle bananas with lemon juice. Add to punch mixture. Refrigerate until well chilled. Serve in tall glasses, decorate with rose petals.

A businessman dragged himself home and barely made it to his chair before he dropped exhausted.

His sympathetic wife was right there with a tall cool drink and a comforting word. "My, you look tired," she said. "You must have had a hard day today. What happened to make you so exhausted?"

"It was terrible," her husband said. "The computer broke down and all of us had to do our own thinking."
