...continued Surah Al-Mujadalah (The Debate) This Surah is Madani, and it has 22 verses and 3 sections In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Most Merciful (Allah has heard the talk of the woman who was debating with you about her husband, and was complaining to Allah. And Allah was hearing the conversation between both of you. Indeed, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. [1:58]) COMMENTARY: (Allah has heard... 1). The reference in the verse is to Sayyidah Khaulah RA, the wife of Sayyidna Aus lbn Samit RA. Thus this verse and the rest of the verses lay down not only the rule of Shari'ah pertaining to Zihar (a term denoting a custom of the Arabs in the days of Ignorance. In case of disagreement with their wives they used to say to them, "You are for me like the back of my mother." After saying this, they used to take their wives as their real mothers in being prohibited for them, and the ties of marriage were held to have been broken for good, with no possibility of their restoration. These verses have been revealed in a similar case where a husband (Aus ibn Samit) had declared Zihar against his wife (Khawlah) who approached the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam and complained about her husband. The custom of the days of Ignorance was condemned, and the rules of Shari'ah about Zihar were laid down by these verses and redress the grievances of women placed in such awkward situations, but the first verse also is in honour of the pleading lady which consoles her, in that it says that Allah was listening to her words when she was pleading her case. FIRED FISH & CHIPS 500g firm white fish in fillets or cut into portions 1 tsp salt 1 tsp pepper 2 Tbsp lemon juice 2 Tbsp flour Lemon wedges For the batter ½ cup cake flour ½ tsp salt 2 eggs, beaten 40ml milk 4 Tbsp water Oil for deep fryin Marinate fish in the salt , pepper and lemon juice for ½ an hour. Sift flour and salt in a bowl Whisk eggs , milk and water together Add flour and whisk for a minute until you have a batter. Take the fish out of the marinate and pat dry with paper towel. Coat with flour Dip into batter and deep-fry in hot oil until golden and crispand floating on top of the oil. Remove and drain on paper towel. Serve with lemon wedges. |
