THE FRIDAY KHUTBAH (sermon)

EXPLANATION OF ‘DIVINE’ TRIAL

By Sheikh Mahir ibn Hamad al-Maeqli - 24 Rabiul Awwal 1438

His Eminence Sheikh Mahir ibn Hamad al-Maeqli –May Allah protect him– delivered this Friday Khutbah titled “The Jurisprudence of ‘Divine’ Trial” in which he talked about trial as one of Allah’s laws. He explained that the people who experienced the hardest trials are Almighty Allah’s prophets then come the most righteous. He also said that the severity of the trial is commensurate with the degree of religious devotion the servant may show. He also pointed out the ways for Muslims to preserve their reward should they experience trial or misfortunes strike. All this is presented through the story of Ghazwat Ahzab (the Battle of the Confederates) which is mentioned in the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet –May Allah’s Salat and Peace be upon him! read more

WHEN LODGING SOMEWHERE

The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said: "Whoever takes a lodging place for himself then let him say: 'A`outhu bikalimãtil-lãhi 'at-tãmmãti min sharri mã khalaqa (I seek refuge in the complete and perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created), nothing would harm him until he would depart from that place.

RECIPE

CHOCOLATE CREAM AND MINT SWISS ROLL
(Makes 1 large cake)

Ingredients:
4 extra large eggs, separated. 125 ml castor sugar (105 g). 60 ml Snowflake self-raising flour (35 g). 60 ml cocoa powder (25 g). Castor sugar for rolling.

Method:
Beat egg yolks and castor sugar until light and pale. Sift flour and cocoa powder and add to egg mixture, beating well. Beat egg whites until soft-peak stage and fold in with a metal spoon. Spread in a lined and greased 23 cm x 32 cm Swiss roll tin. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for 10 12 minutes. Remove from oven and leave to cool slightly. Turn out onto a clean, dry tea towel sprinkled well with castor sugar. Trim edges to ensure rolling without breaking. Remove paper carefully and roll it up with the sugared cloth. Leave it for about 5 minutes, then unroll and leave it to cool further.

For filling
Beat cream and sugar until thickened. Spread over the Swiss roll and sprinkle peppermint crisp over it. Roll up.

STAFF MEETING

Mr. Frobisher always scheduled the weekly staff meeting for four-thirty on Friday afternoons.

When one of the employees finally got up the nerve to ask why, he explained. "I will tell you why. I've learned that's the only time of the week when none of you wants to argue with me."
