Knowledge and Learning

by Imâm al-Haram Husayn ibn 'Abdul 'Azîz Aal Sheikh

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon the noble Messenger, his family and companions.

Fellow Muslims! Knowledge and education occupy a great position in Islaam. It is by knowledge that one increases one’s rank and wins valuable booty.

"Allaah will exalt in degree those of you who believe and those who have been granted knowledge. And Allaah is Well-Acquainted with what you do."

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said, "Whoever takes a path in search for knowledge, Allaah will facilitate for him a path to Paradise." (Muslim)

Propagating knowledge is an obligation on everyone. It includes knowledge in all aspects of human life. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said, "Seeking for knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim." (Ibn Majah)

THE 99 NAMES OF ALLAH (Asmaa ul Husnaa)

The Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) has said: "Allah has ninety-nine names, i.e. one-hundred minus one, and whoever knows them will go to Paradise." (Sahih Bukhari 50:894)

Abu Huraira RA reported Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) as saying: "There are ninety-nine names of Allah; he who commits them to memory would get into Paradise. Verily, Allah is Odd (He is one, and it is an odd number) and He loves odd numbers.." (Sahih Muslim Book-48 Hadith-5)

A married couple were enjoying a luxury South Sea cruise until their liner was shipwrecked and they were washed ashore on a desert island, the only survivors.

Day after day, they looked hopefully out to sea in the hope of spotting a passing vessel but none came. As boredom set in, they started to think about their home back in Arizona.

The wife asked, “Did you remember to pay the final installment on the Chevrolet before we came away?”

“No, honey, I clean forgot. Sorry.”
”Did you remember to pay the electric bill before we left home?”
“No, I completely forgot. Sorry.”
”Did you remember to pay the gas bill?”
”Do you know, that slipped my mind, too. Sorry.”
“And did you remember to pay the six-monthly tax bill?”
”I knew there was something important I had to do. I’m really sorry honey.”
”Well, at least there’s one good thing,” sighed the wife.
“What’s that?”
”They’ll find us.”
