SOME OF OUR LATEST UPDATES
THE MESSAGE

THE MIDDLE PATH

When we become monotheist (I believe there is none worthy of worship besides Allah), there is no other authority in our life. Our process of thinking is guided by the Almighty alone. All our actions and deeds are a service to Him. It is inevitable that we draw ever closer to The Almighty. When this happens the desire to share with those less fortunate becomes compulsive. Prayer is not avoided but becomes an obsession. Fasting is desired not frowned upon.

With Belief (I believe Prophet Muhammad – (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) is the Messenger of Allah) we begin to understand why Allah introduced the defining criteria of the five pillars. Formal prayer we discover is adequate if practiced five times a day and does not have to be all day. Zakaah is 2.5 % and not 100% as would be our inclination. Fasting for only one month serves its purpose and need not be all year round. Pilgrimage performed once is adequate and does not have to be annual.

Suddenly the true meaning of these directives becomes clear and we realize how they are indeed a blessing and not a curse. We also realize that Prophet Muhammad’s (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) practice is a model and relevant only to the Believer. It is only they who can appreciate how these directives are liberating and not enslaving.

As Allah’s vicegerents on Earth, Believers have many responsibilities, and this requires time and resources. This necessitates that we curtail our acts of formal devotion; that we restrict ourselves and Allah shows us the boundaries. In this way we give practical manifestation to the principle of following the middle path, of avoiding extremism, a central tenet of Islam.

Covering the Head When Eating & Entering the Toilet

Question: Is it necessary to cover one’s head when eating and when entering the toilet?

Answer: It is considered as part of Islamic etiquette (Mustahab) to cover the head when eating and when going to the toilet.

عن حبيب بن صالح رحمه الله قال كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا دخل الخلاء لبس حذاءه وغطّى رأسه ( السنن الكبرى للبيهقى 1/96)

THE SMILE

The kids filed back into class Monday morning. They were very excited. Their weekend assignment was to sell something, then give a talk on productive salesmanship.

Little Sally led off: "I sold cookies and I made R30," she said proudly, "My sales approach was to appeal to the customer's civil spirit, and I credit that approach for my obvious success. "Very good," said the teacher.

Little Jenny was next: "I sold magazines," she said, "I made R45 and I explained to everyone that magazines would keep them up on current events." "Very good, Jenny," said the teacher.

Eventually, it was Little Johnny's turn. The teacher held her breath...

Little Johnny walked to the front of the classroom and dumped a box full of cash on the teacher's desk. "R2, 467," he said.

"R2, 467!" cried the teacher, "What in the world were you selling?" "Toothbrushes," said Little Johnny.

"Toothbrushes!" echoed the teacher, "How could you possibly sell enough toothbrushes to make that much money?"

"I found the busiest corner in town," said Little Johnny, "I set up a chip and dip stand and gave everyone a free sample." They all said, "Hey, this tastes like dog poop!"

Then I would say, "It is indeed dog poop. Wanna buy a toothbrush?"

"I used the government's strategy of giving you something for free, and then making you pay to get that taste out of your mouth."
