Sayyadina Abdullah ibn Amr RA reported that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam), said: "The fast and the Qur'an are two intercessors for the servant of Allah on the Day of Resurrection. The fast will say: 'O Lord, I prevented him from his food and desires during the day. Let me intercede for him.' The Qur'an will say: 'I prevented him from sleeping at night. Let me intercede for him.' And their intercession will be accepted." [Imam Ahmad]

Abu Umamah RA reported: "I came to the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) and said: 'Order me to do a deed that will allow me to enter Paradise.' He said: 'Stick to fasting, as there is no equivalent to it.' Then I came to him again and he said: 'Stick to fasting."' [Imam Ahmad, Imam Nasa'i, and Imam Hakim].

Sahl ibn Sa'd reported that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam): "There is a gate to Paradise that is called ar-Rayyan. On the Day of Resurrection, it will say: 'Where are those who fasted?' When the last [one] has passed through the gate, it will be locked." [Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim].

VEGETABLE KEBAABS

1 packet ready made vegetable skewers with fresh rosemary or make up your own by threading chunks of fresh vegetables onto a wooden skewer. Marinade
175ml olive oil - 15ml harissa paste - 15ml caraway seeds - Generous pinch of cumin and turmeric - 1-2 cloves of garlic.

Place vegetable skewers in dish big enough to have them in a single layer. Combine the marinade ingredients pour over vegetable kebabs and rub over kebabs. Leave for at least one hour to marinate. Just before eating place over coals or grill under a pre- heated grill until brown and cooked through. Serve immediately.

You Do the Worrying

Fresh out of business school, the young man answered a want ad for an accountant. Now he was being interviewed by a very nervous man who ran a small business that he had started himself.

"I need someone with an accounting degree," the man said. "But mainly, I'm looking for someone to do my worrying for me."

"Excuse me?" the accountant said.

"I worry about a lot of things," the man said. "But I don't want to have to worry about money. Your job will be to take all the money worries off my back."

"I see," the accountant said. "And how much does the job pay?"

"I'll start you at eighty thousand."

"Eighty thousand dollars!" the accountant exclaimed. "How can such a small business afford a sum like that?"

"That," the owner said, "is your first worry."
