Africanism and Islam: Part 2

Islam Abolishes Slavery

As is often the case with revolutionary movements, early Islam encountered fierce opposition from many elites.

The Quraysh, for example, who controlled trade in the Holy City of Makkah – a business from which they profited greatly – had no intention of giving up the comfortable lifestyles they’d built on the backs of others, especially their slaves brought over from Africa. read more

Removing Impurities

DAILY FIQH

Question: How many times should clothing be washed to remove Najaasat (impurities such as stool or blood)?

Answer: If a Najaasat which can be seen, such as stool or blood, falls on clothing (or on the body), it should be washed until the Najaasat is removed and no stain remains. There is no limit to the number of times it should be washed - the moment the Najaasat is removed, it will be become pure.

N.B. It is preferable to wash the item up to three times if the Najaasat was removed in merely one or two washes. (Bahisti Zewar Page 53)

THE SMILE

Finding the Tea

My poor wife was sick in bed with the flu. Being a dutiful husband, I offered to fix her some of her favourite herbal tea. I couldn't find the tea though and went back upstairs to ask where it was.

She said, "I don't know how it could be any easier to see. It's in the pantry, third shelf down, in a cocoa tin marked 'matches'. Can't see how you missed it?"
